Fabulous small but free to enter musuem, each time I visit I seem to learn something new and interesting about the local area, this time it was the Sword of Kirk Hallam.

Staff are polite, friendly and helpful. Lots to do for the family during the school holidays, we've been every week without fail. Cafe food is yummy and reasonable price too

A great way to lean about local history

I am originally from Ilkeston and thought that I knew plenty about the history of the town and area however the section dedicated to Stanton was a revelation. Who knew the extent of the specialised iron and steel produced here included the Mersey Tunnel

A little gem, always got something going on, lots of educational stuff going on throughout the year. Located in a lovely building. Lots of activity's planned for school holidays either free or very cheap.

Great for families in school holidays

There is always something happening at this little museum. In the school holidays they have very family focused activities, often free or very cheap. A great resource and fabulous team

Brilliant venue with great events all year round
Dec 2019 • Family
We love it here, they have great free events on all year such as the beach and brick week, and it's a lovely oasis in the centre of town with a fab walled garden ideal for picnics. Thanks to all the volunteers that give their time for us all 😊

Hidden diamond

We feel so lucky to have this on our doorstep. Every school holiday and very often at weekends we will come to one of their themed events. As a teacher, I would recommend this as a place to visit. The coffee shop is so cheap and is lovely, the staff that work in there are really accommodating. There are not many places that you could take your children and potentially not spend a single penny but this is one of them. I always ensure I donate a little when leaving as we can not lose this amazing little showcase of our local history.

Visit for exhibition
Feb 2020 • Family
Such a fantastic museum, a great program of events and loads of different things to see in their regular displays. The staff are always friendly and helpful. We went yesterday for the bricks and blocks which was brilliant. We raced Lego cars, built with Lego and duplo, dressed up, saw Star Wars characters, did the Lego hunt, and enjoyed all the usual exhibits- the stables, dolls house etc. We had so much fun we didn’t have time to play in the grounds. Thanks

Lovely museum.

It is a small museum but it has a lot to see. Different themes for differebt days through the year. My children are older now (12 and 14) but they still enjoy a look around.
