- Debbie KEnterprise, Alabama11 contributionsLuminary nightI'm 64 and my husband is 72 with a knee brace currently. We climbed it and thought it easier than the Tybee Island lighthouse we climbed 20 years ago on our honeymoon! The luminaries were beautiful and they had decent live music and homemade bakery items. We got there right at 6 and thought we would not be able to go, but lucked up with someone leaving right in front of the lighthouse. We're not from the area and parking seemed to be very hard to find especially when it's already dark.Debbie, thank you for your review. We're so glad you and your husband climbed the lighthouse and were able to enjoy the views. Our luminary night is something we are very proud of and we're glad you and your husband well able to enjoy it. - DebbyS126 contributionsWorth the climb for fabulous view!Thought this venue was priced reasonably. The 212 steps up to the top was a bit challenging but well worth the climb. Many other exhibits that for a true history buff could take all day.Thank you for your review. We're glad you enjoyed your visit. We agree the 219 steps are a challenge, but well worth it! - Scarsdale54121 contributionsBeautifully preservedThis is a beautifully preserved lighthouse with out buildings. We felt the price was a little high but there are a few extra well preserved and furnished buildings, including the light keepers house, and the grounds are well kept. We were there for St. Augustine's Festival of Lights and the grounds were also decorated beautifully for Christmas.Thank you for visiting our lighthouse and museum. We're glad you could enjoy our Christmas decorations in conjunction with St. Augustine Festival of Lights. We are a nonprofit and rely on our visitor admission fees and donations to help keep the light on. - Red-Barchetta2011Suffield, Connecticut749 contributionsAmazing LighthouseThis is a must see when in area. I like to visit lighthouses when I travel and I will say this is maybe best one I have visited. It is well maintained and you can climb the 219 steps to the top. I am not a heights person but I did it. I did only peaked outside the main deck. My family went out though and they loved the view. We were expecting the light house and home but the museum has number of out buildings to stroll around and explore. All the buildings were well reserved. The inn keeper’s house was very nice with a lot of great history. We did go earlier on Saturday and by time we left was getting crowded so plan accordingly. We did get the annual pass as for 4 of use it was only 5 dollars more and you get a discount at the museum store and some other locations. We used the pass to get a discount at the oldest house. So was worth the 5 extra dollars.Thank you for your review and welcome to the St. Augustine Lighthouse family. We're so glad you and your family enjoyed our lighthouse (and congrats on your climb), museum, and buildings. As a member, we look forward to you joining us again.Written 21 December 2022This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited December 2022Written 21 December 2022

The climb is tough spiral all the way, but there was spots to take a break. Everything was lit up so beautifully. The decorations surrounding the house and lighthouse was very pretty. The staff was very friendly and helpful. they had a snack station too if you wanted. A must see when in st. augastineVisited December 2022Written 22 December 2022

The stories are very entertaining. The lighthouse & grounds are beautiful (even though we only saw them in the darkness with glow sticks but that was the fun part). When in St Augustine & if interested in ghosts, this tour is a must.Thank you for your review. We are glad you and your. family enjoyed the Dark of the Moon tour. - tammyw861Jersey Shore, New Jersey9 contributionsCrowded, enjoyed the nature trail, think it’s coukd be betterWe went to the lighthouse a few days after Christmas. We waited in line for about 45 minutes. It gets very cramped at the top, not much space but views are beautiful. There is a museum with artifacts from shipwrecks. We also walked the nature trail which was a nice reprieve from the crowd. There is also a spot to it hot dogs and brownies.Tammy, thank you for your review. First, we're glad you enjoyed the views and the nature trails. We do have staff and volunteers that monitor people coming in and going out of the lighthouse. We'll review.Written 12 January 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited January 2023Travelled with familyWritten 10 January 2023
- ILRebelRockford, Illinois261 contributionsA nice side tripA beautiful place to visit. Not a tourist trap place, no huge buildup around this working light. No shops or food, just a lighthouse to climb for awesome viws, a walk through the keepers house, a walk on a trail through the woods, cute play area for the kids. Maybe an hour and a half trip. Good for that couple of hours to fill. Quiet and very well taken care of. Warning 219 steps, don't try it with bad knees!!Visited January 2023Travelled with familyWritten 19 January 2023
- Erik W3 contributionsBeautiful viewsLittle expensive but beautiful view at the top. Appreciated stories on each level and that you could see where the light was still functioning. - ccmccarty58Williamson, New York17 contributionsTruly remarkable landmarkSuch a well done renovation. It looks brand new. The museum was interesting, informative and original. The lighthouse was wonderfully restored. I didn’t climb the 200+ steps but there were many people who did and really seemed to enjoy the experience. The store had items not in all the tourist shops. I liked it well enough to become a member even though I live in NYS.Welcome to the St. Augustine Lighthouse family. We're glad you enjoyed your visit and we're glad you became a member! I probably shouldn't review this place, but I'd like to let people know there isn't enough parking. We couldn't find any parking and left. Three other cars behind us did the same thing.

The lighthouse and the entire surrounding complex are well preserved. The view from the top of the lighthouse is incredible. It's not easy to climb 216 steps to the top, but it's worth it. Good place to visit, sit down and relax as well as letting the children play in various parts of the complex, including the caravel-shaped toy with a slide.

We have always wanted to stop here since we saw it on Ghost Hunters. We did a stop and it was nice. Everyone was very friendly and it was well laid out. Lots of historical information as well. Glad we stopped. Also take bug spray as there were a ton of mosquitoes when we went.

The view was amazing! The stairs are not too bad, we took a little break at each landing. You can take you time going up and down at each landing. Depending on how busy it is you have to stop on the landings between flight for others to pass you in the opposite direction as it’s single file. It was worth it. Cute gift shop too.

Yes there are alot of steps but it is so worth it to see how from the top and to watch the inner workings of the light. The lighthouse keeper job was not easy as you will find out. The museum parts are very well displayed and easy to understand. Highly recommend for everyone.

I thought $15 was a little steep at first but its well worth it. The ground are nice, feels like a southern plantation. The history of shipwrecks, shrimp farming in st sugustine and of course all the ethnicities that came to st augustine all all covered in the museums plus the lighthouse of course. The lighthouse climb is a must if you're fit. The views of the surroundings are nice. There was trails but I passed for time.

Climbing up the lighthouse was neat. There are landings at each floor so it gives a little break (or makes the climb less scary). Pretty views at the top. The grounds had a good bit to see (the keepers house, artifacts from shipwrecks), but we went through pretty fast with small kids so it seemed a bit pricey.

Thank you for your review. We're glad you enjoyed our lighthouse, view and exhibits. We're sorry you found it a bit pricey but we are a nonprofit and must rely on donations and entrance fees to keep the light on. Also, if the children are under the height requirement they have free admission, and one accompanying adult receives half-price admission.

Visited the lighthouse while on vacation. Our timeshare was just minutes away. Grounds are nicely maintained as is the lighthouse and the other buildings on site. I made it UP the 219 steps and purchased at-shirt that stated so! 😎 Very nice museum in the light keeper house. Gift shop had some nice items. The volunteers were very nice, informative, and helpful. Enjoy!

Hello, what is usually the busiest time of day? Weekday and weekend...? We want tot try and avoid crowds if possible. Thanks!!
Kathy Fleming
St. Augustine, FL69 contributions
Dear Lighthouse Fan,
Great Question. School has just started so you are in luck, the crowds before School starts are always the most heavy. We are open in the summer from 9 am until 7 pm, and after Labor Day we'll be open until 6 pm. To really avoid the crowds I suggest coming early or later in the day. There are no guarantees but this usually works well. Be advised that children must be 44" tall to climb the lighthouse, and that we do close in rain with lightning. Thanks for a great question. Don't forget to look for the discount coupons on our web site before your visit.

Parking, where?
Kathy Fleming
St. Augustine, FL69 contributions
We have a 50 space lot which is free, or park along the park and the road near the wooded lot across the street.
On weekends the public lots are reserved for boats and trailers but you can use these during week days Too.
You can also take the trolley Beach bus over and you get a discount ticket w their sticker! Hope this helps.
Are dogs allowed on the trails and grounds?
Kathy Fleming
St. Augustine, FL69 contributions
Hi, I just saw your question. We allow dogs on site if they are on a leash. Dogs can go everywhere on the property except in the historic buildings. Please enter through the visitors center, which is the red roofed building to the south of the Keeper's House. It is not historic and we do not want you to leave your pup in the car. It's too hot in Florida.

Do I have to pay admission if I just want to look at the lighthouse from the outside?
Kathy Fleming
St. Augustine, FL69 contributions
Hi, You can view the Lighthouse from the front lawn and there are excellent picture taking opportunities from the pier across the street in Red Cox Park. That's free. The Visitors Center is also free, which includes the shop and a small exhibit, and bathrooms.
If you want to come into the Museum and see the lighthouse up close, then you pay admission. it also gets you access to the Keepers; House which includes an exhibition about the Lighthouse keepers AND a British Shipwreck from the time of the American Revolution. You can see our Boatbuilding program and walk the nature trails as well. Guided tours are offered free with admission on the hour between 11 am and 4 pm. We do this so that we can put the money back into restoration and educational programs, including maritime archaeology. To visit, please check our web site and download a 10% discount coupon that you can use when you visit. Or purchase tickets in advance using the coupon code LH15, for a 15% discount. If you don't want to go to the web there are discount coupons in local tourist maps.
If you use the trolley or trains to get here, be aware that our fee is separate from that one. Parking at the light station is also free.
