Take a step back in time as you enter this Grand Gilded Age home, built by Franklin W. Smith in 1883. Franklin Smith, an eclectic world traveler, was originally from Boston, and he built the Villa Zorayda as his winter home in St. Augustine, FL. Smith was the innovator of poured concrete and crushed coquina construction that is seen throughout St. Augustine today. On the "National Register of Historic Places", the Villa Zorayda is a 1/10th scale reproduction of a portion of the Moorish Castle, the Alhambra Palace in Granada, Spain. View the elegant traceries on the walls made of alabaster and plaster which were made in Spain using the same molds that the Moors used for the walls of the Alhambra Palace! In addition to the magnificent architecture of the building is the original art and antique collection: hand pierced brass lamps, hand carved and exquisite inlaid furniture, an Egyptian rug over 2400 years old, and much more! You will also see beautiful hand painted Spanish & Egyptian tiles, Moorish horseshoe arches, and the beautiful architectural details from the Alhambra Palace. Learn the 133 year history of the Villa Zorayda as you take a state-of-the-art audio guided tour, which run continuously throughout the day. The audio guided tour is available in English, Spanish and French. Free parking while visiting the Museum.

Villa Zorayda is a replica of a Spanish palace with a large Moorish influence. They had many reproductions and few genuine articles. We toured 2 floors. The rooms were small and cramped, with no apparent theme in each room. It seems as if things were just placed anywhere. Maybe the candlelight tour would be more interesting vs the self-guided audio... More

We went on the Candlelight Tour on New Year's Day. The tour guide is a descendant of the previous owner and a wealth of knowledge. It was a beautiful evening in a gorgeous museum, at one time a home. The building and the contents are unique and very interesting. No time for boredom here.

My husband and I were fortunate to attend one of their candlelight tours over New Year's weekend. We had never been inside before, but have always been intrigued by the exterior. We were not disappointed, the inside is absolutely stunning! We enjoyed every minute of our guided tour which included many detailed and personal accounts of the castle both past... More

Very interesting two-story museum to tour. Paced very well with audio headphones. Would have rated higher if you were allowed to take photos inside or a booklet that had photos you could purchase.

We really enjoyed the candlelight tour. Marcia and Jim were great hosts and tour guides. This remarkable 1883 home now museum is worth a visit. Beautiful decorated Christmas Tree, many original pieces and great stories. The cookies and punch served before the candlelight tour were yummy!!

A beautiful building full of many antiques from Morrocco. The tour is narrated by a mobil unit you listen to. It describes everything in each room with all of the details. Ugh, a rug made of cat hair. Interesting to see this museum.
