Having decided to spend two nights in St Augustine, Ben and Mrs Too availed ourselves of the visitor center then bought hop-on-hop-off trolley passes to complete an orientation for tourists in the city. One of the gems in this historically and culturally important area is this site, where the first Christian worship services in the New World are believed to... More

The mission and the grounds are worth a visit. For us it is a Spiritual place where the first mass was celebrated! Jesus, was here 50+ years before Jamestown. The chapel is where one can pray and feel "his" presence.

beautiful but make sure you dont ride your bike, we got yelled at when there were no signs and when we politely said "okay" got off our bikes and respectably walked our bikes off they rushed us yelling "come on, hurry up" very rude to be a christian place! also everything was blocked off we couldnt go to the cross... Very pretty grounds and a peaceful, shady place to walk and reflect. We had heard that Hurricane Matthew hit the site hard, but it was walkable and very beautiful.

Most of this has reopened since being damaged by the hurricane, but there is still an area blocked off. Everything about this place is peaceful and tranquil. A bit of important history is here as well. The graves are old, and the statues and carvings are unique and wonderful. If you feel the urge you can spend some time in... More

We try to go here when ever we are in ST. Augustine FL. It is so peaceful and no noise. There is a lot of history at this place. Walk through the cemetery and read some of the stones. Look at the statues. The chapel is a nice place to visit and light a candle for someone who is sick... More

Matthew did a job on this site. As part of a functional Parish, Nostra Senora de la lecche, it stands as the landing site for the first Spanish missionaries and the site of the first celebration of Mass on what would be American soil. The rest of the grounds are lovely with a second museum on the premises. Informative if... More

This mission makes for a good restful change from the festivities of St. Augustine historic area. The gardens and cemetery are enjoyable with winding trails and benches. The mission is very small, and very historical. Unfortunately some of the area, the bridge and the cross area, were closed for construction - presumably hurricane damage. But it was a great place... Still the bridge is still closed by construction. It is a place to meditate, solemn. At the front there are 4,000 white crosses that symbolize the daily abortions, for which one may wish to pray for them, there is a shrine to the front of the crosses that notifies him.

My favorite place in St. Augustine. Daily peaceful walks to ponder the beauty and gift of this mission where the first Catholic Mass was ever said in the US. Lovely small chapel of Our Lady of La Leche was simple but beautiful. Very interesting to explore. Many people were exercisng quietly in the mornings. Very peaceful....
