Flagler College's historic campus is located just four miles from the Atlantic Ocean in the heart of St. Augustine, Fla., the “nation’s oldest city.”The college is named for Henry Morrison Flagler, a Gilded Age industrialist, railroad pioneer and partner with John D. Rockefeller in Standard Oil. In 1888, Flagler built the Hotel Ponce de Leon, his first in a series of luxury resorts along Florida’s east coast. A masterpiece of Spanish Renaissance architecture and the first major poured-in-place concrete building in the United States is now known as Ponce de Leon Hall. This National Historic Landmark serves as the centerpiece for the Flagler College. The grand hotel launched the careers of young architects John Carrere and Thomas Hastings who are noted most for the New York Public Library and the House and Senate Office Buildings adjacent to the Capitol in Washington, D.C.The Edison Electric Company powered the building with steam heat and 4,000 electric lights, making the Ponce one of the nation’s first electrified buildings. Louis Comfort Tiffany is credited with the building’s interior design including the stained glass and mosaics. Murals were completed by George Willoughby Maynard and Virgilio Tojetti. The hotel was gifted to Flagler College when the institution was founded in 1968. Since then, the college has spent more than $43 million dollars restoring the historic campus and adding new buildings.

Amazing and beautiful architecture. The building was originally a beautiful hotel converted to a college. The wealth of the Flagler family is very evident in all the original paintings, plus the gold and marble used in the construction. Tour guides are students of the college - delightful young folks.

This campus is so beautiful and it has been recognized as one of the better colleges in the Southeast and in the whole nation by the US News and World Report! Of course, it originally was not a college campus. Long ago, it was the opulent Ponce de Leon Hotel, which was built in 1888. It was renamed Flagler College... More

Our bus group had one of the students as a guide and she did a fantastic job! She knew everything about the property and spoke where we all could hear and understand. This is a Must See for St Augustine!

The buildings and grounds are absolutely stunning! There was a Freshmen orientation going on the day we were there so we didn't get a chance to tour. I would definitely like to go back and schedule a tour to see the inside. I'm sure it's as amazing as the exterior. A definite must see while in St. Augustine!

The lobby and courtyard are public - but the $10 tour is the only way to see the dining hall and it's amazing windows and murals, and also the ladies' sitting room with beautiful chandeliers and decor. I definitely recommend it - its wonderful to see such a gem not only preserved but in such active use.

Took the tour with Caroline, she was very good and knowledgeable. The tour lasted about 45 minutes. We felt it was worth the money. Hint...pick up a flyer in the lobby, on the back it says you can redeem for $1 off.

Took the tour of Flagler College led by one of the Flager students. Even though it was only her second week of giving tours, she did an outstanding job. Very interesting tour. The Tiffany glass windows are beautiful and worth the tour.

This was a stop on our Segway tour. It is so beautiful inside and out. We were able to tour the grounds and go inside the college to see the beautiful painting on the ceiling, woodwork, and flooring.
