What a fabulous experience! We visited the Morean Art Center Glass Studio and Hot Shop after seeing the Chihuly Collection. Fortunately we arrived not long before the next demonstration of glass blowing/making. And what a demonstration it was! Danielle was the commentator (and helper) and Tim was the glass maker (the roles are swapped for each demo). It was fascinating... More

The Morean Art Center is a small museum which wasn't especially interesting except for the classes it offers -- I wish we lived nearby to take advantage of them. The thing that makes me give it a top rating was the hour-long glassworking demo they did. I've seen glassworking (including at Corning and Murano) many times, but this was the... More

There was very little to see at this center. There is a store to buy some pieces but nothing worthwhile.

We visit this museum and glass shop often. It is right across the street from The Chihuly Gallery, so convenient to see both places, although The Morean is free. They usually have pretty good exhibits and the glass shop is really nice. We have purchased several pieces there. Fun way to spend an Hour or so.

We visited the Chilhuly collection at the Moran Art Center. Then we visited the Hot Shop glass blowing demonstration which was part of the museum. There use to be a separate museum that housed this collection but now it is part of the Moran. I cannot describe how breathtakingly beautiful this collection is. Each room has a centerpiece and a... Based on some purely observational experiences with glass craftsmen in Murano, Italy, this sounded like a great hands-on activity in downtown St. Petersburg, and we were right! Reservations are required for the 30 minute Personal Experience ($75). For 3 people to have a more social experience, we reserved 2 consecutive slots and one person acted as photographer. You get to... More

The hot shop demo was outstanding - didn't have time to do the "personal glass experience" but will go back to make my own paperweight! The Chihuly exhibition was excellent - the movie was definitely worth watching. A great overall experience. Check Groupon to see if a ticket discount is available...

This was a very nice visit.. although we both thought it was to short.. especially for $20 a person.. It did include walking across the street to watch a demo on how they do the glass... but really should be a tad cheaper as very small display... with that being said we did enjoy the exhibit.. just wish it took... There are two parts to the Morean Art Center (hot shop and art display). We started at the hot shop, which was a glass blowing demonstration. I have seen some simple demonstrations in the past, but this far surpasses anything I have seen; it was a two person process and they made a very impressive piece. Overall, the demonstration was...
