We visited last Monday for the first time ever. Walked about 2 miles of boardwalks and saw some wildlife, but it was the middle of the day, so earlier or later would be better. A very well maintained park, in a lovely setting, but disappointed that the nature center is only open Thursday thru Sunday. Guess it's those darn budgets.... More

Boardwalks were great. As was the tower, from which the distance views were fantastic. And the Cultural Center was very well done. They put all that effort in, and then no trail signs. Come to an intersection, and have to guess which way. Miles and estimated time at the trailhead would have been helpful.

The real Florida on the bay is not manicured lawns, concrete bulkheaded waterfronts. It is thick groves of mangroves, their twisted, entangled exposed roots rising out of the water, with masses of branches and leaves low to the water. In the protection of these curved roots is the hatchery of most of Florida's sea life. Visit Weedon Island and rent... More

This seems much farther from the busy city than you would expect. We enjoyed the walk along the extensive boardwalk through the mangrove forest but there really wasn't a lot to see. We saw a few birds but no mammals and the views were really just thick vegetation and small lagoons. The cultural centre is not open every day and... More

Weedon Island is a bit off the beaten path which is what makes it great. It has beautiful surrounding, there are a variety of birds to see. Depending on where you are in the park, you might see a gator, snakes or turtles sunning themselves. The park is also a good place to exercise. Or your can unleash your creative... More

Besides an excellent visitors center, kayaking is wonderful here and bird watchers will think they have died and gone to Heaven. Great hikes for all ages.

Arrived early afternoon with mother and her friends. The plan was that I was going to kayak and they were going to walk the trails. Went to rent a kayak ( all rentals thru Sweetwater Kayaks on site--10% off coupon available at their store on Gandy Blvd) Cost was $40 (before coupon) for the afternoon. No parking at rental site... I always enjoy paddling in the Weedon Island area. If the tide is high (check the tides before you go) you can paddle the entire marked canoe trail. There is a tree canopy on lots of the trail so it is great any time of year. The put in area is very nice and there are clean restroom facilities. Parking... More

Nice canoe/kayaking trails through the mangroves. Great fishing. Perfect place to get away to nature without having to go to far.
