The orchids are the best collection I've ever seen (although I don't seek out orchid collections). Take advantage of chatting with the volunteers and you'll learn tons. The walking tour is free and worthwhile. The gardens are not enormous, but it makes it bearable and easy to visit.

Large estate gardens open to the public. Wear your walking shoes as there is a lot of ground to cover. Multiple gardens indoors and out. Views of the bay and benches so you can sit and enjoy the views. There is also a new Children's garden with lots of activities for children. Worth the price of admission.

An amazing garden with a variety of displays, definitely worth a visit. 4 stars instead of 5 just because the Chagal exhibit has only 3 of his paintings (plus some nice reproduction stained glass). We liked the French food truck for lunch.

This botanical garden is very big. Paved trails wind their way around various habitats with many interesting sections that are both educational and beautiful. Definitely start with a short guided tour because this helps with setting the tone of your visit. Many tips were given to us by our guide so that later, when we strolled the grounds at our... More

We were fortunate enough to visit during the Chagall showing. The conservatory was adorned with replicas of Chagall's stained glass pieces. Wow! The gardens are amazing in their own right. The curators have arranged the specimens beautifully. Each area of the gardens has a distinct feel. You KNOW you're in the mangrove area, or the palm area, or the desert... More

We've so over used superlatives like awesome and fabulous and amazing that when we actually experience something that is awesome and fabulous and amazing, these words seem to be suddenly inadequate. Shelby Gardens is awesome and fabulous and amazing and it's right I the heart of downtown Sarasota. You gotta go. You really do. Just go. Take everyone you know:... More

beautiful flowers, especially orchids. Sarasota is known for the fantastic circus exhibits. But here the circus and hysteria about three Chagall tableaux and a few photos is exagerated and too expensive, a real ripoff.

Fabulous!!!! You are in heaven as you walk through the gardens and see the bridge from many areas overlooking the bay. It's stunning at Christmas!!! All year round they have something going on. Even the Sarasota Music half marathon runs through the gardens, it's just amazing. A definite not to miss on a visit. As a local we go all... More

Don't go there for the Christmas light decoration. It's a rip off. Hardly any lights and extremely expensive. When you go in instead of lights they offer you expensive hot dogs, cotton candy and drinks. Largo botanical garden has 20x more lights, bigger and only $4 donation.
