I was with 2 boys 7 & 9 and husband on trip and looked to spend a couple hours on this tour. Well there really is no tour. you are given a sheet of paper and you meander about on your own with no real direction on where to go. I found the ship to be dirty cluttered with stuff... More

It was really interesting to see and explore the ship but they do have guided tours. Call ahead and ask if it's tour day because I would love to hear the history along with seeing it. Just walk down a little alley behind the aquarium to get to it.

On 12/3/16 we were honored to be a part of this wonderful celebration. The parking was an issue and better information and signage would have helped. Boarding was a breeze once you knew which line to get in; again a signage problem. The changing of Old Glory's position and the national anthem were amazing. This was a 4 hour tour... More

If you airboats l appreciate military history you'll enjoy this. Well preserved and friendly staff it was fun to learn about the ship and our history. You might be able to find a Groupon as well

Its hard to imagine what anything from WWII was like but here you can experience it first hand. This nicely restored and maintained treasure is docked for all to enjoy. There are plaques describing what each room it and its purpose. You can just imagine the place filled with young men doing their jobs on board this freighter. By today's... More

My wife and I toured one of four WW 11 ships of the Merhant Marines. As a retied Sailor I was impressed with the ship. The main engines, (600 lb. steam) looked small but top speed is only 17 knots! not what I am used to. We were impressed but be advised there are a LOT of ladders, steps, to... More

I went along to The American Victory with my two sons, both in their 20's. This was "dads part of the trip". We all had a great time, me because I was interested in the ship anyway but my sons because of the chats with the volunteers we met as we wandered around her. These guys were more than happy... I've visited ships in San Diego and N.Y. City. The American Victory doesn't measure up. Although the history of the ship is interesting, the ship itself isn't much, and it is still in need of more restoration. The ship is hidden behind the Aquarium, with very poor signage.

Best Halloween event ever!!! Includes super scary special effects and live actors. Takes about a half an hour to tour the haunted ship. These folks know how to do a haunted "house". Well organized and fun! Parking at aquarium lot was pricey at $10 for about 45 minutes so if you can take public transportation you'll save $$. Highly recommended!!!

This is a work in progress - although they have already restored a great deal of this ship. The SS American Victory served in WWII, Korean War and Vietnam War and gives a very good idea of what life and work were like on a naval ship. If you happen to be visiting Tampa I would recommend a visit. Very... More
