Not your typical museum ship

We stumbled across this ship/museum by accident and were there before it was opened for the day. The ship chaplain Gary saw us wandering around outside and brought us in and gave us a very informative, personal tour. He is passionate about the ship and nautical history and I probably learned more from him than I did in school history... More

I have a bit of a passion for museum ships so when I was invited to go to Florida for a week I sought out what was within driving range and found the American Victory. I was aware of the two Liberty Ships that sail on either coast, but not the Victory ships. Now.... well now I'm very well informed!... More

We had just visited the Aquarium and we were going for a walk when we found this museum. It was brilliant to see and gave you a real understanding of life on board one of these things during war times. I might have this wrong but I got the impression that it was run and maintained by volunteers supported by... More

Interesting mix of museum and working vessel. Having spent some time aboard ships, this place is great, a real throwback. You can easily tell just by the smell of the place that she's ready to go back to sea again. Some things are missing (historically she had more guns) but overall she's in fairly good nick. It's strange to see... More

It's a given that old museums have a certain smell and are full of creepy mannequins that attempt to portray the look and events of the day. I wish someone with resources could volunteer to remake these into newer versions. maybe someone, somewhere has connections to have them updated. Was a nice piece of history and cool to walk around... More

Back in the 70's the Navy retrofitted these C4 hulls to Oceanographic survey ship. I was on the USNS Dutton TAG 22 and we charted the ocean floor making topographic navigation maps. With its flat bottom it would rock and roll at the slightest wave. It was a single hull so any crack in the hull would cause it to... More

This ship was great they offer student discounts which makes it super affordable. It is a great peice of history and the tours are self lead so there is plenty of timw to explore read and take photos.

We arrived to channelside and made our way to the ship. Wow what a site. We entered through the side and man were we amazed. It is a self guided tour which I enjoyed because everything was labeled and explained on plaques. We have a 6 year old son and he loved it. Especially the guns up on the top... More

We found a great Livingsocial deal for this SS American Victory Ship self guided tour on a very rainy day in Tampa. Parking was hard to find but was able to park in parking garage across from the round turnabout. We learned lots of ship history and even saw two cruise boats (Carnival and Royal Caribbean).

This does cost you to go on. But you can run all around the boat and it does go out from time to time with people on it.
