My husband and I enjoyed this tour so much. Captain George was very informative. It was quite interesting to learn about the sponge diving/gathering in this area and how important it is. The two other gentlemen were helpful showing the suit and to learn the one was a former diver.
Exciting to learn the sponges I purchased can be used as vegetable or flower seed starters.
Don’t miss this tour!

If you visit Tarpon Springs or are looking for a unique experience, be sure to take a St.Nicolas Sponge Boat Tour. This locally owned small business was started in 1924 by Greek sponge diver Capt. Billiris and still run by family today. The trip is fun and educational as you are on an authentic, working sponge dive boat. The family works hard, is appreciative of customers and keeps prices very reasonable. Family friendly and dog friendly too!

Absolutely loved this tour!! It’s been family owned for 100 years, and they’ve been sponge divers for that long, too. I loved meeting the crew and taking a two hour boat ride. The diver didn’t show up for work today, but they let my son try on the suit! It was a great trip with a great group.

What a great boat ride. Narration by George was so informative - I had no idea how integral sponge fishing was to this area. Frank, the diver, was awesome. Not an easy job; quite hazardous! The two older gentlemen were helpful & capable getting people of all sizes & ages on & off the boat. The cruise was 45 min - perfect for us as we were running out of time

The host is very knowledgeable & friendly! The diver wasn't able to go out the day we visited (we knew beforehand), but George & the diver-in-training took us on the boat. George gave us so much information, and showed us many things used in sponge diving. Our children had a lot of fun, too! Thank you so much to St. Nicholas Boat Lines, Inc. for a very memorable visit to Tarpon Springs!!

I went on the St. Nicholas Sponge Dive Tour and it was coolest thing I have done in Florida!!!! The family has been in the sponge industry since the 1920's and the Greek diver/guides are 3rd generation. They do a VERY good informative tour which includes the history of the sponge industry, explains about types of sponges and how they are processed. The guides and diver are very friendly nice people and I would highly recommend going on their tour!!! It is a short 40 minute tour so you can show up in town and go sign up to catch one of their tours. The last tour is at 4pm. I paid for my tour then went for lunch at one of the amazing Greek Reataurants, hit the Greek bakery for some delicious pastries (another MUST do),did some shopping/walked around town, then went on the 4pm(last tour). It is a must do while visiting Tarpon Springs!!!!

Attempted to take this tour during the middle of July. Unfortunately we found out from neighboring shops that they are closed through October. No signs or anything posted near their boat or they’re waiting area. Too bad that we drove two hours hoping to enjoy this.

It was late afternoon when we reached the sponge boat docks. Several boats were on their last tour of the day. Having a long drive ahead, we were glad to find a sponge diving exhibition that fit our schedule. Seeing and handling the different types of sponges as they were described was interesting. Seeing up close the donning and doffing of the sponge diver's outfit was fascinating along with his demonstration. Staff were personable, well informed , willing to pose for pictures and answer questions.

Is the boat fairly easy to get into and out of? I have a bad leg that slows me down just a tish. Thank you!

Highly unusual for no one to be at the booth. This operation seems to run daily, every day. Two or three trips a day, depending on how many people show up. Sorry you missed the boat ride. It's a short ride, but does offer a demonstration of a deep sea diver, and a brief history of sponge diving. Children love the ride, and adults see first hand how the diver puts on his dive suit, and plunges into the water. Hope you are able to experience this tour, next time you visit Tarpon Springs.

Is it possible for you to point your exhaust away from dimitris where people are eating? I found that very disrespectful to people who are spending their hard earned money for a nice meal. I mean you had exhaust pointing directly at the patrons

I am just reading this today but just FYI it doesn't really matter the direction the exhaust is pointing its more the direction of the wind that dictates what direction the exhaust will travel
Is it handicapped accessible?
