Visited the stadium to watch West Indies play England in an ODI. The first things to say is that security will not let you take any metal bottles into the ground, so any metal reusable water bottles will be taken from you and left for you to collect when you leave. The second time I went, I only took plastic.

The ground holds about 10,000 but there were probably less than 2,000 people at each of the matches. That meant security was around the outside of the ground, but non-existent in the stadium unless you were going into the party stand. This meant that as soon as you bought a US$7 ticket for the grassy bank, you were free to wander into the stands and sit in a seat that should have cost US$50 - I won't make that mistake again! Just buy the cheapest ticket you can and sit wherever you want. Given that you can sit absolutely anywhere, the views are great. Just be prepared to run for cover if it rains - it sure does hammer down if it decides to rain. But the outfield drains really impressively well so within 30 minutes of the rain stopping, the payers were back on the field.

Prices around the ground are in EC$ despite tickets being priced in US$. The handful of permanent food and drink outlets built into the stands also took credit and debit cards, which was very useful. However, this being an international match there were also a lot of excellent pop-up street food stalls and cocktail bars, most only taking cash but a few of the busier ones also taking cards. I had a most excellent lobster and chips on one visit (US$40) and ribs and chips on another (also US$40).

Went to day 3 of a Leeward islands v Jamaica four day game. V cheap to get in, a couple of dollars a head. Was so quiet, just a handful of fans, but with some good W Indian players involved. Stayed out the sun in the well shaded stands. Bought a lovely snapper dish for lunch from a stall in the main stand. Managed to lose $90 on the wind when I took my phone out my pocket so I hope it found its way to someone who needed it!

Visited for the Antigua & Barbuda vs Barbados match for the #concacafnationsleague.

Visiting was a great experience, and once you’re in there you’re free to roam and explore the stadium grounds. We could watch the match from wherever we saw fit.

Tickets were extremely reasonable, and I enjoyed the fact that they sell magnums in the stadium. Didn’t try the food on offer, but the fried chicken and dumplings looked tasty.

If you’re a sports fan and are on the island, you should definitely check this out.

Got a driver for the day and this was a location I had to see. Unlike UK stadiums, our driver simply drove in, we could wander round and even managed to walk out to the square. We were even told we could go into reception. The people there seemed genuinely pleased we wanted to see their stadium. There was no charge and there are no gift shops, just a stadium which is at the early years of its life!!

We even made a new friend when we were walking round, she followed us everywhere!!!

It was easy to get in and out and found our seats easily. The atmosphere was good with WI bands playing and still drums. The barmy army held their own. Home made food of all sorts available and no dearer than we pay at home (UK).

It’s a little rundown now but this is still a wonderful stadium with a great view of the field of play from anywhere in the ground. My group had great seats at the Andy Roberts end, but it was much more enjoyable to watch the match with the locals on the grassy bank. Plenty of food and drink vendors there too. Excellent lobster and goat water for lunch.

On our recent visit to the lovely island of Antigua, my wife and I arranged a bespoke island tour and one of the places we requested to see was The Vivian Richards Stadium, having just seen West Indies play England recently on TV Sports. Would have loved to have been there a few weeks earlier to experience the match live. We went in and had a good look around at the impressive facilities. Worth a visit, ideally when the Windies are playing!

What a lovely disorganised stadium this is. A picture of the great 'Sir Viv' statue is a must before you enter the ground. Don't bother buying a stand seat ticket as some seats don't exist and people sit where they want anyway! The best place to sit is on the stoned ground area - the atmosphere gets better and better as the day goes on!!! Also you are close to the food and drink stalls - the jerk chicken is delicious.
The ground staff don't have the best of equipment but managed to get 2 International ODIs completed.
All said what a fantastic experience shared with Antiguans and England fans. A great day out.

We paid $35 for tickets in the main stand though really could have spent $15 for the cheapest tickets and sat where we liked as there were lots of spaces. The seats are a bit grubby and we had to wipe ours down in the front two rows of the main grandstand before we sat.

It’s all a little higgledy-piggledy but that just adds to the charm of the stadium. We had vendors selling everything from pies to goat curry right behind our part of the stand but we walked around to where there were some great food offerings at lunch. I opted for a lobster and shrimp roll while my wife had a Mac and cheese with truffle and both were great. We drank Veuve Clicquot and jugs of Pimms and bantered with the mostly friendly locals.

We had a wonderful day, it was my wife’s first ever at cricket and she absolutely loved it (not difficult considering the above and 28C temperature) - it’s certainly different from my upbringing at Lords and the Oval.!
