We had an opportunity to visit Hartwell Dam to see the testing of the gates. The test involved opening all the gates on the spillway and it was a sight to see. The Savannah River rose up the banks a considerable amount in a short...More

I have visited Hartwell Dam and Lake several times. I have participated in the annual Dam Run twice, which allows you to run across the dam! It's an interesting experience. I would recommend the Big Oaks recreational area at the dam for picnics, etc. We...More

This is a gem. Far enough away from the big cities to be a nice enjoyable place to fish, ski, and relax.

It's huge, not too crowded and still affordable to buy on. The locals are very nice and there are some great restaurants, right on the lake. So much better than Lake Lanier.
