A step back in time

It was amazing to see these ruins up close. It was like stepping back in time. Amazing how well they have stood the test of time.

This is a neat place to stop. It has a lot of cool information and you can see the tabby they used to build it.

Worth viewing ... amazed at the difficulty they endured and the construction of the home. Upstairs was where the kids stayed down was master bedroom, kitchen and dining. Families didn't stay indoors much at all. Home was built out of Tabby a combination of oyster shells, sand, etc.

Interesting ruins. Always like to see history. Across the street is a very old cemetary. Very spooky.

The Horton House ruins are very well preserved - free - and fun to explore.. As a native Georgian I am embarrassed I had never visited this site - nor was I aware of it. What makes it so cool is it is real you can actually touch a home (most of it) from colonial times. There are free parking... More

We took a bike ride around the island and this was one of our stops. Also accessible by car. Good signs with information for educational value. Very cool to learn about the building materials and that this is one of the oldest standing homes in the USA.

I am a lover of history, so I enjoyed the site. However, I wish the site were protected from people destroying it by carving it to pieces.

An interesting stop for anyone interested in the history of the island. The area is shady and there are multiple stations with benches that have beautiful views of the marsh area on the backside of the island.

A nice little bit of history on the north side of Jekyll. There isn't a ton to see here, so extend it by visiting the pier up Clam Creek Road.

To enjoy ruins like these ones you need to also love to read and keep up with history. Otherwise you just won't "see" what this house means in the greater scheme of things. Get acquainted with the Horton fam history first and then enjoy ur visit.
