We signed up for a paddleboarding lesson and rental that launched from Back River Beach. Like the mid-island beach, it was not at all crowded and very clean and well-maintained. The sand was nearly white in that area, making it look more like the beaches in Florida (gulf cost) and/or parts of the Caribbean. We saw more people fishing in... More

Sad that so many boat trailers take up the little parking that they have. But not many spaces as it is. But was clean and kept good.

Great views, but the island is being ruined by jet skis right where the dolphins play. The water is not clean and fishing is everywhere so watch were you walk or swim. I have seen many sharks caught and sting rays - hot - hot - hot.

Beautiful part of the island. Quiet, lovely views of the marsh and Little Tybee Island. We've rented in this area in the past. Even if we aren't staying on the back river, we bike/walk/drive over in the evening, usually with an adult beverage, and watch the glorious sunsets.

Growing up on Tybee I have seen many changes. The myriad of parking meters, Condo over crowding, and obstruction of beach views that has slowly reduced the charm Tybee once possessed. The Back River, as we all call it, still holds on to the charm I grew up with. Please visit with respect and be kind to the environment so... More

Similar to: if you don't like the weather stick around for a minute. :In about 45 minutes of leisurely stroll you can go from the busiest of the Atlantic breakers to the wild, windswept dunes and point where the ocean makes the turn into the back bay, here, the surf spreads into a vast array smoothing out into the horizon.... We sat on this beach and watched the sunset for about an hour tonight. The perfect end to our Thanksgiving day! It was very peaceful. There weren't very many people (although, to be fair it was Thanksgiving and it was windy and a bit chilly). As with all places in Tybee, you must pay to park.

The beach on the back side is lovely!! Great place to watch the sunset. You have to watch the tide carefully . The sand seems softer and whiter.

This side of the beach is not as busy and it great for families or couples. It's the location of a lot of kayaks and fishing. The waves are not as big so it's great for smaller children that can get knocked down by larger waves.

Savannah's Back River is a very quiet spot. Here you can fish along the beach or on the pier and watch dolphins swim by. There's lots of beautiful beach houses along the shore.
