Description:

Located in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, the Okefenokee Swamp...

Located in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, the Okefenokee Swamp Park is a convenient point of entry and a magnificent show-window for the "Land of the Trembling Earth." The park's lily-decked water trails, with their miraculously reflective waters mirroring the overhanging beauty, lead to all points in this vast wilderness of islands, lakes, jungles, forest and prairies. Boat tours on original Indian waterways, wilderness walkways, Pioneer Island and native animals in their own habitat, all combine to weave a spell of pioneer American life. Headwaters of the Suwannee and St. Mary's Rivers, Okefenokee is a National Wildlife Refuge which covers nearly a half million acres.

I was surprised how much we thoroughly enjoyed going to okefenokee. There's enough to do for a family to enjoy the day outside. Be sure to check out the little known bear exhibit we loved it! And do the boat ride it's very informative.

Expertly guided boat ride through a genuine swamp. Other amenities. Worth the stop or detour. There's a snake snow that we missed. Or hisssed!

We had planned on entering through the Folkston entrance but were told by the brave firefighters at the admin building (still miles from the visitor center) that they were fighting wildfires that were makijng a visit impossible. It said so on the website, make sure you check it out thoroughly before you go (I hadn't!). But they recommended taking the... More

Took my two grandchildren and we had a great time. There was a lot to see and plenty of alligators in the water and out on the bank to see. Also more were in captivity. They had guided boat rides to venture into the swamp and a very tall sightseeing tower. There was a train ride plenty of activity to... More

My husband went to the park when he was a kid, and suggested that we try it out on our recent trip to Darien, GA. It was only about an hour and a half, so we got up early and headed over. I do suggest getting there early when you could be concerned about it getting hot. In mid-April, it... More

If you look for a true exploration of what Okefenokee has to offer then search for longer and more adventurous variants out there on the internet. This tour takes you out 'a few blocks' and then back, 45 min boat tour, engaged guide, you see gators (the boat goes to the pond next to the parking lot to see them,... More

We arrived by 10:00 am and left around 4:00. Train ride was great, did not realize that the last car did not have a roof and would give the best views. Maybe not the best audio. The boat ride must not be missed and make sure you get in the boat with Shane, he and finding Crazy are the best... More

We visited on a Wednesday in mid-March. There were very few other guests so we were able to maximize our photo ops. We bought the full ticket and enjoyed all our journeys. At this time of the year there are 3 'events'. The train ride, the boat ride, and the nature talk. Each starts at the top of the hour... More
