Very interesting place to go. Lots of information on the history. Was cool to see all the differences in cells. Some places were off-limits which was a bummer but it was still a lot of fun. Not exactly the best for strollers in all areas

A self guided tour with tons to read and learn. We, thankfully, went on a day that wasn't raining too bad or cold because it is an indoor/outdoor tour.

I suggest taking the guided tour. TONS of history and the guides are super knowledgeable. My favorite part was the military weapons museum and the execution chamber. My kids had a blast and so did I.

This was a fascinating tour. We went with 7 of us including teenagers. The tour guide told us many stories about the convicts and their life in prison. What I thought would be terribly boring was quite interesting for all of us.

Perhaps one of the greatest joys of any road trip is to “take time and smell the roses” along the way. Let me rephrase; I’m a “sucker for an adventure” - and the best adventures are those that offer an education. But seriously, there’s some...More

A perfect casual intrieguing activity. A perfect combo of cheap, casual, choose-your-own-adventure, informative, historical stop. 2 hours here is probably the maximum but you can honestly probably let yourself kill 2 hours wandering randomly and reading the well documented history of this place. Cool historical...More

This is a great historical site that is both interesting and entertaining. It is all a walking tour so bring good footwear. I’ve been on the tour multiple times over the years and I learn something cool each time I go.

After living here for many years, we took the tour of the penitentiary. It is interesting, educational, and a little sobering. It is worth the time it takes to walk through the buildings and read the plaques. It can get hot during summer months so...More

The paranormal tour is done only around Halloween. There may have been special access granted to Ghost Hunters for their TV show, but it's not a regular event. The Penitentiary has some places that are quite unsafe and the... More

The Penitentiary is wheel chair accessible in some parts. The entire area is connected with pavement. However, there is a step to view inside one of the cells. There is also a Museum. If you take a look at the website... More
