A great place to bring your camera, or fish or just take a nice walk around the area and see the water and wildlife especially waterfowl. We enjoyed seeing the great scenic views around the area, there is a boat launch and lots of trails to explore the area.

We visited Deer Flat during July 2016, and were disappointed by the lack of any wildlife. We saw only a couple of blackbirds, and nothing else. Also there were many bees which kept landing on us, which made our walk rather unpleasant. I suspect this place has better wildlife during other seasons, but would not recommend it during the summer.

This is part of my Lake Lowell Lighting series. This was photographed on the North shore of Lake Lowell in Nampa Idaho. A bit more light shinning through the trees and a wide angle shows a better perspective of this "Magical Place"

I really enjoyed going here on school field trips with my child(ren). It's close and yet is away from it all. Staff and volunteers are very knowledgeable and are very interested in what they do. Their passion shows!

If you want to hike and see wildlife, (deer, eagles, osprey, ducks and geese) they have easy walking trails. One is full of sun and one is full of shady spots. Or you can boat or float from five different boat ramps. At the Lower Dam there is a very shady picnic area but you have to bring your own.... More

The Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge surrounds an enormous lake which has great fishing. We love to see the GEESE flying in and out all year except deep winter. There is a hiking trail on the Northside which is very long. It is handicapped accessible, okay for horses and bikes, nothing motorized however. This area is a GEOCACHERS haven. There... More

The refuge is good for all ages and there are many hands-on activities for children in the center. A walk around the lake on the trails in the spring and fall is lovely but beware of summer as there is very little shade and the temperature can rise into the 90's. We love the birding photo opts and there usually... More

Great place to go alone for a walk in nature or with friends on a boat. They have places to watch birds, a visitors center. Signs with interpretative history, walk the dogs, swim, fish, and more.
