Need to be in shape to get to the top!

This is a great in town hike. If you haven't acclimated or are in so so shape, you should be able to make it to the first lookout. Best to get to the Roundhouse for lunch. Then... read more

Trail begins just to the right of the gondola, with a well marked entrance. It is 5 miles to the summit, where Lookout Restaurant, vending machines only in the summer, offers spectacular vistas. Good preparation will ensure the most pleasant hike. Ideally start the hike when the temperature is at or below 60F. About 2/3 of the hike is exposed,... More

I rode the gondola and lifts to the top of Bald Mountain and hiked down (July 2016). There were plenty of wildflowers and views of nearby mountain ranges. It is work, even going downhill and some detours due to the use of heavy equipment, made for a couple of steep sections. Expect to hear some faint construction and traffic noise... More

This is a great in town hike. If you haven't acclimated or are in so so shape, you should be able to make it to the first lookout. Best to get to the Roundhouse for lunch. Then take the gondola down or continue to the top. Dogs are allowed but can't go on the gondola. It doesn't cost to take... More

Starting out at almost 6,000 feet, the hike up Bald Mountain Trail is breathtaking, not only from the 3,000 + feet climb in elevation but also because of the views of the sweet little town of Ketchum and up and down the Wood River Valley. From the top of the mountain you can look west over miles and miles of... More

Last year we hiked to the top of Bald Mountain, and this year we decided to hike down. From the top, it is about a 2 ½ hour hike down the 5 mile trail. It was hard on our knees and ankles, but we were more focused on the beauty of the hike rather than our hurting bodies! I would... More

The fortunate thing is they make snow when it is a lean year. We were lucky and they had a foot of powder then sun the rest of the week!

If you don't have much time, want trees and shade, or just need to warm up and get used to the altitude, this is an ideal trail. Located by the River Run Lodge, it is easily accessible by any car or the local bus.
