The Newberry is an independent research library concentrating in the humanities with an active educational and cultural presence in Chicago. Free and open to the public, it houses an extensive non-circulating collection of rare books, maps, music, manuscripts, and other printed material. The Newberry offers exhibits based on its outstanding collections, theatrical performances, lectures and discussions with today's leading humanists, seminars, and teacher programs. The Newberry welcomes researchers into the reading rooms who are at least 14 years old or in the ninth grade. Creating a reader account and requesting collection items takes just a few minutes.

I stopped by on a whim attracted by the building and an incomplete understanding of its holdings. It also happened that their 4 day Book Fair was underway and the first floor where exhibits and information would have been was filled with books and customers....More

Newberry Library is one of the best library in the world. It has a fabulous building exceptionally historical collection, extraordinary people with great services. Thank for making this happen, I am very grateful for benefiting from this great institution.

The Chicago calligraphy group put on another excellent showing. The presence of words in art makes for many interesting and explorative pieces.

I was really impressed by this research library. They had an 1889 magazine I was looking for. The security officer and library staff were super friendly and helpful. This is an amazing library.

We visited this library this month and are very amazed by the architecture and the content. We can spend a lot of time going through various aspects of the building. Absolutely loved it. Definitely recommended!
