The interesting part is just one 'closed' street which is mostly full with restaurants. I visited relatively early in the morning we=hen most of the establishments were closed but this actually added some magic to the place. I'm not sure it is worth going out of your way to visit here unless you crave traditional chines food

If you want authentic Chinese food...here's the place! The candy shop we went to (forgot the name) was way over priced however, the souvenir shops were very interesting and the shopkeepers were all friendly.

Compared to San Francisco or New York the China town in Chicago is rather small and ever so functional. There are a variety of very authentic Chinese restaurants in the area and a few traditional Chinese shops. Worth a wander if you are in the area or if you are seeking out some authentic Chinese food.

Of course, you will find dozens of restaurants and selection of goods originating from China. But it never really raises and gets not enough interesting, more like an ethnic part of Chicago

There may be close to a hundred food establishments, but surely a couple will satisfy just about anyone's taste. Every regional cuisine of China seems to be represented along with Vietnamese, Thai, and fusion to a lesser extent. All within walking distance. A variety of souvenier, bakery, jewelry shops fill the spaces between restaurants. It is a matter of picking... More

We stopped by to see Chinatown. Lunch was decent. Enjoyed walking around and seeing Chinatown. 2 1/2 was plenty of time.

Unless you are going to eat, there isn't much to see. We went to walk around. I'm a Chinese speaker and I love to go to China towns, but Chicago's China town is much less beautiful than I remembered from my childhood.

As a child in the 1970's my family visited Chicago's Chinatown from time to time, so after 30+ years it was interesting to return. The best thing about Chinatown is all the people speaking Chinese! You really do feel like you are a world away, if only for an hour or so.

Chicago's Chinatown is basically an ugly outdoor mall (Chinatown Square) made to look "Chinese," with zodiac sign statues and rusting "pagoda" towers, and Wentworth Ave. Both the mall and Wentworth have Chinese restaurants and tourist trap shops filled with poor quality junk. A lot of the restaurants and shops have had numerous health code violations, including roaches and rodents and... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown may be one of Chicago’s smallest neighborhoods geographically, but it's big on character, colors, sights, sounds, and flavors. In this South Side neighborhood, you’ll find authentic Chinese restaurants dotting the length of Wentworth Avenue. After a meal of dim sum, noodles, duck or other tantalizing food specialties, satiate your visual appetite with dozens of public art sculptures sprinkled throughout the neighborhood ranging from animal structures to pagodas, a tile mosaic, Chinatown Gate, and a Buddhist Temple.
