About
Enjoy the best in Chicago-style sketch and improv comedy in one of the city’s most popular comedy theaters. The Second City is six-decade-old and is where the likes of Tina Fey and Steve Carrell shot to stardom. A classic revue in the club is made up of original sketches and songs accompanied by their world-famous improv, which typically relies on audience participation. If that’s not your piece of cake, make sure you get seats at the back of the room. You might want to arrive early to grab dinner and walk around Chicago’s historic Old Town before the show. – Tripadvisor

Brunch that makes you pee your pants
So side splitting! We went for the Sunday Brunch. Booked the tickets and parked in the garage next door (park on 3 and you can enter directly without going outside). Seating is by the hostess based on arrival time. The Brunch is actually really good and the service is excellent. The show started on time and it was hilarious!! The actors take audience participation in determining the improv and we laughed so hard. These people are so Clever, so up on current events and have a wonderful way of making everyone in the room laugh. You should really go, and I will go back. You know its a good show when you leave thinking about all the people you should bring back with you next time :)

Improv brunch was the highlight of our trip!
Went for the improv brunch because we have kids with us and the brunch show is more PG-13. It was the family's favorite activity on our trip to Chicago! The actors are so talented and funny, it was a very entertaining show. I will note that the brunch menu is pretty limited, and not every seat has a table in front of them, so some of us were eating food on our laps. Not a big deal - we went for the comedy, not for the food.

Eat, Pray, Bigfoot in Love Enjoyed by all
Everyone enjoyed this mixed show of Improv and scripted skits. Friends from Philadelphia, New York City, Oklahoma, Texas and North Carolina all left the show laughing. Incredible customer service. Very well run production. Iconic theater with a rich history in comedy. Would strongly recommend. Small bites (pretzels, chicken tenders, sliders, vegetarian option) available as well as drinks.

    Hysterical!
Absolutely hysterical! We got the premium seats and it was well worth the extra money. The staff were very accommodating and genuinely friendly and fun. The cocktails are a little pricey but that’s Chicago. Go forget about life for a few hours and laugh!

    Entertaining
Fun and entertaining. Saw “Best of Second City” show. A little bit of sketch and a little bit of improv. Cast put on a good show. Gave audience several good laughs.

    So Funny!
My wife and I visited Second City as we knew a lot of SNL stars got their start here. We don’t love improv normally, but when there are pros doing it, it’s so much better! The sketch comedy was even better! Combine that with the history of the place, and it’s a Chicago must visit. If you’re not from Chicago, we’d recommend the show we went to, which was one of the ‘best of second city’ shows.

    Don’t quit your daydream
I have never been a improv fan, more of a stand up comedy fan so I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed this. The show was hilarious. Mixture of preplanned skits and stuff made up on the spot. Also good mixture of quick bits and more drawn out pieces. Service was quick and attentive. Comfortable seats too. Enjoyed the intermissions. Highly recommend.

A great show with the best improv talent I have ever seen.
Being a huge SNL fan I have always wanted to check out Second City to see where some of the most amazing comedic talent got their start. I have to say the show exceeded all expectations. I saw the show Don't Give Up Your Daydream on the main stage. To start the waitstaff, specifically, Tristan who was taking care of my section was very attentive and delivered a drink to my table when my previous one was empty. The show was constant laughs, the only other show that made me laugh more consistently was when I saw The Book of Mormon. The content was edgy, smart, and progressive, not too raunchy. The lighting cues and keyboard accompanist were spot-on and added a lot to the show. There were two acts to start, a second intermission, and then they ended with straight-up improv. I was in disbelief that people left before the third act. In my opinion, the third act was the funniest part of the show. The talented cast blew me away with their ability to keep the laughs going with creative content all made up on the spot. Stick around, you won't be disappointed!

    Filthy dirty but funny
Just saw Don't Quit your Daydream at Second City. Easily the best improv show I've seen (although most of skits were pretty scripted.) Table service was a plus - the draft IPAs are excellent. Don't bother with "premium" tickets because the hall is pretty small. Also I wouldn't take high school age kids here because you will all be embarrassed by the material eg, very heavy on the oral sex jokes.

Went to Chicago Second City on 6/17 with two girlfriends, looking forward to a fun night. We are all middle aged (50s and 60s) and have dedicated our lives to public education. Immediately after being seated, a staff member asked one of us to leave due to “allegedly touching a staff member inappropriately”. We were all flabbergasted. There wasn’t even an opportunity for this to happen. We literally showed tickets on our phone, walked directly to our seats, and sat down. I asked to speak with a manager…none available. A very young security guard just shrugged and said we had to leave. I just would never recommend this venue to ANYONE. Maybe they oversold and needed our seats?? I have no idea. STAY FAR AWAY if you look like a grandma!

We enjoyed the first show so much we rearranged our schedule so we could catch a second performance!

Incredible job with wheelchair accessibility! You can buy ADA tickets online in any price bracket. With the tickets I reserved ahead of our trip, Second City reached out to me to inquire about how they could accommodate my needs. I've never had this happen before and the bar has now been set high for what excellence in inclusive customer service looks and feels like. The second round of tickets were ordered with a much shorter turn around time (less than 24 hours), so they did not reach out a second time and I completely understand why under the circumstances. Staff at both shows were incredibly helpful when it came to locating elevators and bathrooms, moving chairs, and making sure my husband and I were seated where we could see. Bathrooms had a handicap accessible stall.

We saw the show on the MainStage - The Devil is in the Details. The actors were talented. It was a mixture of skits and improv. Some of the skits were hilarious; others were not really that funny. We enjoyed the Inprov the most and they gave us a bonus third act of Improv.
We did not order food. Seats were cramped and not that comfortable, but we weren’t there for that. No clue how the manager chooses the seating but they clearly had a plan!
A fun Chicago experience, and who knows? Maybe someone will end up on SNL one day!

Went for don’t quit your daydream and it was just awful. Wasn’t funny at all. I totally wasted money. I was waiting and waiting and waiting for the show to get better but instead, got worse and worse and worse. I couldn’t even do the fake laugh…. But people were laughing so maybe I and my husband were the “wrong people”. Lol I couldn’t even do any longer so we left at the intermission. I will try “stand up comedy” next time, maybe…. It was so painful….. but the server Nick was really nice and friendly and got the order in time and quickly.
Nick told me those comedians were on the third weeks in, I don’t know how long more they will play, so maybe it’ll be funnier with other comedians…. It’s just our opinion, others found them funny.

I can’t believe I have lived in Chicago my entire life and haven’t visit until day. What a perfect way to spend an afternoon at brunch.

Everyone is FUNNY and they encourage audience participation. Food & Drinks were delicious.

Had a great time! Show was wonderful. Performers were great. Laughed out loud. Interactions with crowd were perfect. Huge compliment to the server/customer service staff. The service was excellent, and the food was very good! Prices not unreasonable and everyone was very welcoming and attentive. If driving, reserve a spot and park in the garage in the same building. Works out perfectly!! A wonderful thing to do during your visit to Chicago!!!

After decades of admiring the Second City grads on SNL and the improv circuit I finally made it to the source. Saw "Don’t Quit Your Daydream" with my adult kids. I do not understand many of the reviews on here as it was just plain hilarious. Just what I expected. Are you reviewing the right show (there are at least 4) ? Nothing bombed. Always irreverent, bawdy, sometimes outright X rated fun poking. A little political, but not so much compared to say the Capitol Steps. Well written sketches and skits but lots of ball busting improv that involved the actors tweaking each other as well as the audience. They are remodeling the main theater so the main show is temporarily in the 3rd floor UP Comedy Club with theater seating and small tables. Great service all throughout the show; decent food, good beer and wine selection and price, except they REALLY like their hard booze cocktails if the price they charge is any indication. All the actors were good but a couple were downright hilarious. Go yourself so you can figure out who is who.
