This is one of Chicago's hidden gems. It is small and can be seen in fairly quickly. an hour to a few hours depending on how in depth your viewing takes you. The collection is excellent and much of it rotates on a regular basis. I go there often. Parking is pretty easy especially on weekends and during university vacation... More

We were staying in downtown Chicago and visited this area mainly to see Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House. With extra time on our hands, we wandered over to this free attraction. It seems like they have some permanent exhibits and some rotating ones as well. There is an eclectic collection of art from around the world, and enough to pass... More

This is a small art museum but it has pieces from all over the world and different time eras ( some modern and some centuries old). Thus, a little Asian art, a little European art, a little African art, and American art. Mostly fine art but there is Frank Lloyd Wright furniture ( dining room table and chairs). Plus changing... For those of you heading towards the Frank Lloyd Wright Robbie House nearby, this museum houses the Robbie House Dining table and chairs, they also have a nice if limited collection of paintings and decorative arts. There is a nice little coffee shop in the lobby, and the courtyard architecture is very pleasant. Not certain I would make this a... More

They were installing a photo exhibit in a section of the space. The open space available was a wide ranging display, that had something of interest for everyone. We read the notice after going through the space, that the exhibit was set up to enhance the student learning experience for ART 101.

Worthwhile to visit. Have intended to visit for years and finally went with art class friends to see the Monster Roster exhibit. Highly recommend a going. Learned about the Chicago artists during WWII and what influenced them. Parking is easy on the street, lot of nearby inexpensive garage open to the public.

It is a little bit tucked away, but well worth the visit. If you are in town to see the Robie house, be sure to stop here to see the diningroom table. Like the Oriental Museum, this museum on the University of Chicago campus is free. The permanent collection includes a Rothko and Milton Avery who were painting buddies. The... More

After visiting Robie recently it was cool to see the original furniture. Kind of a loud environment at least when I visited but a nice visit nonetheless. Pretty small but can be combined with so many nearby museums to make a great day!

Very nicely done museum on the University of Chicago campus. Absolutely free, with a nice cafe and very friendly staff. Small is probably an understatement: there were maybe ten rooms total. Wide variety of art, but usually one example of each, with the exception of the special exhibit room that rotates. Well worth a stop if you are in Hyde... More

This museum is a lovely place to spend a few hours if you find yourself in Hyde Park. It is small but often has well-curated special exhibits that are accompanied by gallery talks, events for kids, symposia and other events. If you are campus for the tour or visiting other attractions in the neighborhood, you may want to stop by.... More

Staying in Hyde Park

Neighbourhood Profile
Hyde Park
If you want to get a feel for quintessential South Side Chicago, you have to make a stop in Hyde Park, one of the city’s most popular neighborhoods. This historic area is home to two of the city’s most prominent cultural institutions, the Museum of Science and Industry and the University of Chicago. A stroll here will bring you past vintage and grand hotels converted into luxury apartment buildings; peaceful gardens, parks and green spaces; and ivy-adorned museums and other cultural institutions that speak to the city’s diversity and architectural beauty.
