It's nothing! Only 4 galleries are open, the others are under repairment. Most of their collections are not on view. The exhibition is poor. Finished in 10 minutes. Not worth the $12 parking and the lengthy driving in traffic jam. What a disappointment!

It is a small museum on the campus but it is free. It had several rooms of various contemporary art pieces, a special quilting display that is actually hands on and also a Russian / Socialist historical posters and propaganda showing that was very educating.

I'll start this by saying that I am not overly fond of the modern art movement so you may enjoy this museum more if you are. That said, the museum is actually a lot closer to a gallery. There's nothing wrong with that, just don't...More

The eclectic but impressive collection will surprise you given the comparatively limited space at Smart compared to the Art Institute, for example. However, the pieces on display from the permanent collection are virtually all gems. Bonus: you'll never be overwhelmed by the sheer size of...More

When we visited, the Museum had galleries devoted to Modern Art, to Classicism past and present, and to Asian art. There was also a special exhibit of a German Fluxus artist. I found the curation enjoyably educational; no doubt U of Chicago art professors have...More

The Smart Museum must be one of the most overlooked gems in Chicago. Small in size with a very eclectic permanent collection that rotates annually, the museum also hosts special temporary exhibits on a wise range of topics. The show on Classicism currently on display...More

We were staying in downtown Chicago and visited this area mainly to see Frank Lloyd Wright's Robie House. With extra time on our hands, we wandered over to this free attraction. It seems like they have some permanent exhibits and some rotating ones as well....More
