If you want to do something different, take an architectural tour in a boat! It’s an interesting way to learn more about the city’s skyline. Learning about the river itself too. It’s a cool excursion and not moderately priced.

The Wendella River Architecture Tour boats run rain or shine. We were lucky enough to go on an evening when it was raining, so the boat was practically empty. The forecast looked good and we bet on the rain stopping. We were right - the...More

Took the opportunity at the end of a business trip to take this tour down the river. It was mighty cold, and there were probably only half a dozen or so people on the boat, but that meant uninterrupted views, so it's all good. The...More

We took the Chicagos original architect tour having concluded our work for the week and was really impressed with the knowledge of the tour guide. Everyone had a clear view as the boat turned back each end so both sides of the river were seen....More

This boat tour has indoor and outdoor seating. We went in December, but it was nice enough to sit outside and I highly recommend outside. The tour is laced with very funny jokes by the tour guide, but it is also very educational. You learn...More

Bob our boat tour guide was excellent! This is a MUST do if you are in Chicago. The architecture of this city is outstanding! There were tables and chairs, a bar and snacks on the boat. Bathroom was clean.

It's like riding through a skyscraper canyon. Old vs new architecture in design concepts. You can't see these views by walking or bus tours. A must see to appreciate the diversity building designs.

Nice tour with great and enthusiastic guide. Lot’s of energy and perfect knowledge about the various buildings. Maybe even a bit too much info. But the 75 minutes is just perfect to learn more about the city you are visiting and get a different perspective...More

Over 400 stores pack the concrete along Michigan
Avenue, the eight-block stretch known as Magnificent
Mile. This area between Oak Avenue and the Chicago
River is more a shopping paradise than a full-out
neighborhood. For prime upscale shopping, this is the
place to go. It’s busy, energetic, and packed with
shoppers. You'll also find hundreds of restaurants and
dozens of hotels, all on the mid- to high-end scale.

I would say anything before noon, as the tour boats aren't that full at that time and there aren't so many tour operator boats around the river. I believe the evening tours around sunset are amazing too!

Most kids love the lake! The Chicago River Architecture Tour is great, but I do believe that most children want to get on the lake.
