Unabridged is a great local shop, small but not tiny, one of the last bookstores in the neighborhood. The staff is always friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable. In addition to a large selection of books of general interest they also maintain a very large travel department on the lower level - guide books, travel literature, maps, and foreign language... Unabridged is a great place for anyone likes to read, to learn, to explore. Biographies, art books, very significant GLBT, large travel section, and yes a lot of classics too. For everyone younger than 25, there used to dozens of stores like Unabridged in every town and city in America. Really, trust us. You could go and explore, easily spend... More

It doesn't matter what kind of books you love, you can find all the most recent releases (and old favorites) here! Like a lot of my favorite bookstores, the staff and owner post extremely helpful handwritten cards letting you know which books the staff particularly love and why. They also have a very good selection of classics in each genre.... More

This was my favourite bookstore while travelling in America. It has a cosy welcoming feeling and an excellent selection of stock. I particularly liked the arrangement and categories but the amount of staff recommended reads was a real plus.

Used to shop here when I lived in Chicago. Now, while visiting, I returned for a visit. It's that good -- that while on a vacation I took time to go to a book store .. this, despite the fact that I already have plenty of books on my to-read shelf. Warm atmosphere. Very interesting selection. And what I love... More

One of the great book stores left , has the latest books and is such a cozy place, great children's section , and helpful clerks , small enough to navigate, love this place.

Unabridged Books is by far the best bookstore I have ever visited in Chicago. It's hard to say what my favorite thing about this bookstore is, the handwritten index card reviews taped up throughout the bookshelves, the incredible depth of knowledge each employee possesses, the amazing author visits… Unabridged Books gives me hope that independent bookstores will survive, even beyond... Unabridged is wonderful. It's a nice nice book store, with a whole travel section downstairs. If you ever need a travel guide, they'll have whatever you are looking for. They had great variety throughout the store, and even put up little signs about awards books have won and such. It really helps you to find what you are looking for.... More

Came here mostly because some old reviews online suggested it had a secondhand book section; it didn't, but turned out to be a superb bookshop anyway. Large shop, decent range of books and a real emphasis on attractive books that look good and offer something more. Good sized sale section, massive travel section (both guides and coffee table books), also... More
