Excellent Museum!

Great museum! Love when museums have a fixed walking route to guide you through. Nice exhibition inside, but also the outside area was lovely. Recommend to anyone visiting Texel!

What a fantastic collection of maritime artifacts and an extensive portait of life on Texel and seaman histort in the Netherlands. Very interesting from the start to to the replica houses outside and the amazing Jutters museum.

Wonderful museum
Sep 2019 • Couples
This is by far one of the best museums I've ever visited, what an extensive collection!
So much to see (and do) inside and outside as well.
I could have wondered around for days.
Friendly staff, who talk passionately and proudly about their workplace.
We bought the combination ticket (€18,50: Ecomare, Oudheidkamer and Kaap Skil)
I highly recommend Kaap Skil to anyone and everyone who sets sail to the beautiful island of Texel.

Informative, nice set up

Nice maritime and beach-combing museum, lots to see. Very informative. Didn't know Texel played such an important role in the maritime world in the past. Beautiful items have been found among lots of trash and rubbish. One hall gives an impression of all the rubbish too.

Lots to see
Jul 2019 • Friends
Lots to see and lots of labels in English! We spent a long time here enjoying the exhibits and trying to absorb all the information. We had a lunch in the restaurant. Two of our party were not particularly happy with the food but my wife and I thought it was good, and I'm writing the review :-)

There is better things to see and do on texel. This is a bit of a junkyard that charges an entrance fee.

Informative and English-Friendly

This museum had several very interesting yet diverse components. There was a very interesting display of seafaring ships and stories related to the island of Texel and its roll in Dutch wayfaring history with the VOC and naval might. There are several houses showing examples of earlier lifestyles of people on the island, from a fisherman's house to a blacksmith's. Of particular interest is a whole building of artifacts collected from the shores of Texel (Jutters) that are quite surprising. And there is a windmill that still mills flour. Many interesting displays of fishing practices and clothing, as well as facts about the north sea. Quite a lot of stuff for a little museum. If you plan to do both the Museum and the Ecomare sea lion rehabilitation, there is a discounted ticket to do both.It was a cold, clear day when we visited. The staff were friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed some good hot chocolate and a biscuit in the snack shop. Beautiful tapestry/art of the Island of Texel on the ceiling above the lobby/snack shop.

Worth a visit
Dec 2018 • Couples
Like any museum this one requires an amount of effort from the people that are visiting. For this reason I do not see how visitors can be bored. More likely 'lazy' rather than bored is the label to be applied.
The museum is in the Netherlands and there are plenty of labels and activities in Dutch as I would expect. Partnering this is German text and English is there but not always. Perhaps this reflects the main nationalities of the visitors.
Nonetheless there is plenty to see and to do if one is willing to make the effort.

More to see than we thought...
Sep 2018 • Couples
We almost didn’t visit as it as unclear wha5 we were paying for but I’m glad we chose to go in. Lots of interesting exhibits. Loved the little houses and the set rooms. The little kitchen was just as I recall my Dutch grandmother’s home and made me quite nostalgic. Enjoyed climbing the windmill. Enjoyed the interesting textile exhibitions.

House of Clutter
Aug 2018 • Couples
You pay € 9,00 to experience boredom. When you go downstairs you get many (boring) stories and technology that would be amazing if only this was the year 1991.
Many computers didn't work and you might be able to see a Windows error message if you are lucky.

The upstairs floor contains clutter and more endless clutter. You can open drawers with... clutter. Some drawers are empty. There is a box filled with water that should contain knives. Instead you see fungus.

The information is written in a boring and old fashioned way. So you want to know more about this era and sea adventures? My advice (which is free instead of € 9,00) is: download Wikipedia and YouTube on your smartphone. Use the € 9,00 entry fee to get something to eat. Terrible experience.
