Our favorite hike in Shawnee!

We got to the Rim Rock trailhead around 10 AM on a beautiful Thursday morning. There were only two other cars in the lot at the time, and even by the end of our hike, we only saw two or three other groups on the trail. We started out taking the far left trail, which was paved with stone; it... More

I have been to Rim Rock Trails several times and its always a great place to go for a scenic hike. I need to get down there in the fall and see how beautiful it must be, as there are several maple trees down by the creek at the bottom of the rocks. The moss covered boulders at the bottom... More

We go to Rim Rock at least a couple times a year. We really enjoy the hiking and beautiful scenery. Our children ages 7, 15, and 17 love it too. I wouldn't recommend for strollers if you have little ones, or disabled persons because there are a lot of steps on certain parts of the paved trails. Take water and... More

Seriously, if you want to see one of the most beautiful paths to hike, visit Rim Rock Rec Area. We don’t really want to tell you about it, because it’s not overly crowded with day hikers, the way a lot of places are. But, if you are someone that can enjoy the outdoors quietly, with respect and reverence, then please... More

Rim Rock was an all-around great hike, I'm so glad we went. The woods were secluded and pretty, and when we got to the lower level we were blown away. The hiking itself can be as laid-back or intense as you'd like to make it, since Rim Rock eventually connects with Pounds Hollow (also very pretty).

Rim Rock is only a few miles from the Garden of the Gods. The path starts out as a dirt path through the forest with a bluff along the left side. After a bit, you will spot on your left, moss-covered stone steps that look carved out of the rock that surrounds them. To get to the steps, keep heading... More

It took quite a bit longer for us to traverse the trails than they say in the brochures. My GPS app said that we walked a little over two miles for the full trek. The best route is to begin by taking the path that goes straight ahead through the top of the hill. At the far end you can... More

We came to visit Garden of the Gods, but stayed an extra day to visit this hidden gem. While staying in Golconda, the trip was only about 25 minutes. There were a few other visitors, but mostly were able to walk through the area by ourselves. Lovely destination.
