Every time I go to Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge I almost always see deer. Every once in a while we will see wild turkeys as well. Great place to go camping as well.

My husband and I recently drove through part of this wildlife refuge. We went right at noon so we did not see much wildlife. However, the short loop that you drive through is quite lovely and is a great place to spend the afternoon. We stopped for a picnic along a small lake and it was quite peaceful. Only the... More

This is a very nice area for riding bikes. We park at the refuge office and take our bikes into the refuge. The "loop" that most people ride is about 6 miles round trip. The nice thing is that you see the various wildlife and habitats in this area. Deer, turkeys and eagles are just a few things you might... More

If you love the outdoors this is a place to see! I like the trails and wildlife viewing platforms. Wolf Creek area is one of my favorite. I have seen deer, fox, bobcat, pheasant, quail, beaver, wild boar, turkeys, pelicans, as well as, many water fowl throughout the refuge. I'm not a fisherman but there are lakes everywhere & when... Stopped again on our way to Chicago. Not alot of birds yet, except while pelicans, which number in the 100's. A nice place for a quick drive and interested that it use to be a munitions manufacturing area during the war. A nice reuse.

We arrived in Marion around sunset so detoured to Crab Orchard because of the tripadvisor reviews. Very nice short drive, with white-tailed deer everywhere. Next time, we'll do the Causeway route near the water!

This is a large refuge with many areas to visit. We only had time for three areas and saw many hawks, two deer, a blue heron, two egrets, and cows. Strange to have a park with cattle. Fishing and camping are allowed.

Drive though in your car and see deer, turkeys, lots of birds, and other animals....even eagles! Big lake for fishing. Great space for bike riding or walking too. We go almost every day, Tables for picnicking, etc. The scenery is beautiful!

We went with a long- time Marion resident that goes often. We went late in the day and the deer were coming out of the woods to feed in the fields...egrets and herons were in the lakes. Some times we have seen owls and hawks, but not this trip. Drive very slowly and you will see deer in the woods,... More
