Pre-revolutionarily war fort kind-a. It's a re-build 100 foot to the east of original site. Great re-build, to see how things were before America was America!!!! Hope IL can continue this re-building.

Enjoyed our visit by hiking the wood and historic fort trail up the Ohio River edge. The visitor center was open, simple but new free exhibits on french and revoluntionary war history of the site. The site was well maintained and had clean restrooms. Decent playground for kids. The fort itself was a nice reconstruction, however, no open exhibits inside... More

Metropolis, Illinois has a beautiful state park in Fort Massac State Park. It is on the Ohio River and it has a campground with electric hookups (there are water spigots sprinkled around the campground) and nice level sites with plenty of shade. It also has a dump station. It is a short walk to the Ohio River from the campground.... More

A nice state park. Lots of green space and picnic areas, or just a nice place to park and relax too. It's clean and maintained well.

Stopped for a leg stretch on a Saturday morning and the visitors center and park office were closed. Tried to find the hiking trail along the river but there were no maps...and found the paved road closed due to flooding. A notice somewhere would've been nice. Oh yeah, bathrooms were closed too. Call first if you want to visit!

A nice, clean state park with nice views of the river. The grounds are well maintained and the buildings are nice to see. Easy waking and biking trails

Very well kept state park with play ground, bath house, all level gravel sites with paved roads. I didn't have reservations but went anyway. Met the camp ground host and she said they are hardly ever full. $20 for the night! They do not take credit/debt cards . Great place super quiet! Only 1 1/2 miles off the interstate.

Great park with a wonderful visitor center, make sure to check out the exhibits and information in the visitor center - amazing views of the Ohio River, take time to walk down to see the river, so worth it!! LOTS of history here.

Overlooking the Ohio River from the southern tip of Illinois, Fort Massac State Park has been preserved and maintained since 1908, when it became Illinois' first state park. Today, it is a captivating reminder of days gone by, a fascinating trip through the entire course of American history and the perfect place to relax in soothing pristine and natural surroundings... This is a great park and worth stopping for a picnic while passing through. It's a short distance off the interstate. The Fort replica is also a nice addition.
