Although of historic interest, the cottage is (currently) nothing more than a shop for local crafts and goodies, with the Ale House providing sandstone reproductions of four people from the past and nothing more.

Thank you for your review, sorry that you were disappointed by your visit. The cottage is a very fine example of Vernacular Architecture of the time and as such is significant. Last year we undertook a large scale renovation of the building including re-thatching the roof which should ensure it remains in a good state of repair for many years... More

Thank you for taking the time to review Souter's, sadly none of the original furniture or artefacts from his time at the cottage remain, however our Curator has been trying to source examples of what he might have used to make shoes and we hope that when we re-open next season the displays in the cottage will include appropriate artefacts> More

We were welcomed by a very friendly lady who explained the history of the cottage. Whilst disappointed there were no original artifacts, the arts on display were very interesting and we were particularly impressed with the sandstone statues in the building at the back. Worth a visit.

Even if you are not into Robert Burns this small cottage is useful. It gives a fascinating insight into rural Scotland. It shows how whole families lived in the one room and a second room was used by the shoemaker for his trade. It is a National Trust for Scotland and is easily coupled with Culzean Castle which is just... More

You should note that this attraction is not in Glasgow as the heading indicates. It is in Kirkoswald in Ayrshire. Souter Johnnie was the inspiration behind Robert Burns's poem Tam O'Shanter and Burns visited this cottage on a number of occasions. The cottage is traditionally thatched and to the rear there are artefacts that tell the visitor a lot about... More

This cottage is small & quaint. It has a small living area & a small work shop attached. It is furnished to the period. There is a small thatched building at the back with life sized replicas of Jonnie, his wife, Burns & another (which was covered up when we were there) The member of staff was very nice &... More

A good place to visit, very interesting, a new guide book is apparently being made, this would be helpful, they do have an information card, that is interesting & helpful, I'd recommend & visit again
