A Scouting Museum in the city where the Scouting Pioneer in the U.S.A. lived

This is a very unique museum in that Mr. Boyce lived in Ottawa. He learned of scouting while in London, England, when a young boy offered to escort him across the street. He came back home to the U.S.A. and started the Boy Scouts of America. There is a statue celebrating this unique history a short distance from the Scouting... More

We stopped by here on our way out of town. Was a little before official opening but we were allowed to enter. Lots of fun scouting memorabilia and information. If you are into scouting it is great! The Ottawa historical part was interesting too. If you like history, want to show what things were like to kids, etc. it is... More

We were in Ottawa to explore Staved Rock and found the museum through Trip Advisor. It was worth the visit. Past reviewer said the staff hovered, but that wasn't our experience. We explored the Scout history and local town history collections and were impressed. Admission is free, but leave a donation to help out as the attendance was low when... More

Surprised this wasn't busier for a Saturday. Also had a section on local history, but I just went to the Scouting Museum. Staff was helpful, but did hover a bit He seemed a little bored and glad to see somebody. The displays were great! Very informative on scouting history and girl scouts, too. More people arrived as we were leaving.

Good exhibit of local Ottawa history, especially the old mansions and their owners. Great display about Peltier Glass

Lots of scout memorabilia and a nice section on Camp Fire Girls. In spite of the museum help hovering over you, it's worth a visit if you are in the area.

This first started out to be a Scout Museum. Now it includes many artifacts from the area. I was pleasantly surprised at just how much of Ottawa and LaSalle County items were included. It was very interesting for me as I live in the area.

This is an excellent museum. A great source for scouting and local history. There are some displays that are seasonal. It's a little hard to find if you're not from town. Periodically, they hold craft days for kids (build a birdhouse, etc)

Having been in CUBS, BOYS, & EXPLORER scouting, I found this place to be an EXCEPTIONAL visit. There may be other SCOUTING historical COLLECTIONS, but I had never seen a collection like this. The curators have done a great job of displaying the collections appropriately.
