The Bridge between continents is a small footbridge over a major fissure which provides clear evidence of the presence of a diverging plate margin. The bridge was built as a symbol for the connection between Eurasian and North America tectonic plates.

Yes you absolutely should go here! It’s amazing to stand between 2 tectonic plates. How many opportunities do you get to do something like that? We visited in winter so the contrast of the snow and lava rock was awesome.

The picture only shows bridge but it isn't. This is once in a lifetime opportunity to stand between the continental plates. How many times do we get to see two plates between continents. Just like many other places in Iceland, this isn't well developed area...More

It may look like just a bridge in the middle of nowhere, but it is more than that! There aren't many places in the world where you can just walk between two continents.

If you enjoy learning about the earth and its structure, this is for you. No, you won't be able to look into the core beneath the crust and see the magma (I saw one person on a website complain that he couldn't see it). This...More

This bridge was built for this attraction - good for pictures. If you only have a short time; then you can come here for a short visit and claim you been to the Continental Divide in Iceland. If you have time, then you should visit...More

This is a purely symbolical bridge between two tectonic plates. The place allows you to admire a crack between the two and surrounding volcano landscape (ashes and lava). There is no toilet on the spot. You have to wear warm clothes because of the wind....More

This was a neat stop near the airport. The idea that you can straddle the continents is weirdly cool. It is not as impressive as Thingvellir or course but if you only have a few hours between flights or want to kill some time to/from...More

The west side of Iceland is located on top the two tectonic plates of Eurasia and North America. East of road 425 near to Sandvik, they have made a bridge over the fracture, connecting the two continental plates. The plates seem to be drifting apart...More

If you are limited on time and can only hit this road on the peninsula and want to see the tectonic plates separate, I get it... If you have time go to Thingvellir National Park, it is so much more amazing and a better experience.
