Starved Rock State Park has a large visitors center and many trail maps around the park, so you always know where you are. There are easy, short trails, or more natural ones the farther you go. Beautiful scenery and many good chances to see eagles.

The hiking trails were marked well so we never felt like we were going to get lost. The girls enjoyed the Ottawa & Kaskaskia ones so much we went to those twice. I loved the St. Louis water fall it was beautiful. We hiked the whole trail & it was just breath taking

We've had our sight on this park for some time now. We love to camp and hike and found a small window to take advantage during March. While a bit on the cold side, we want to see some of the ice flows that develop in the canyon waterfalls during winter. It was idyllic weather for such as the winds... More

I have been to Starved Rock State Park in all seasons, and there are many beautiful hikes to take, waterfalls when there has been enough rain, and frozen falls in the winter. There are dangerous spots throughout the park, especially if you have little ones along with you that might run off on their own. Photography is a hobby of... More

Beautiful Hiking along trails that are well maintained - a lot of steps to upper viewing spots overlooking the Illinois River. LaSalle Canyon is a must see with its beautiful waterfall. After a heavy rain is the best time to see it, but it's muddy so wear shoes/boots you don't mind getting dirty. Bring some water and snacks for the... More

If you're looking for a great day hike 90 minutes outside of Chicago, this is the place. No admission fee. Amazing bluffs along a winding wide river will leave you doubting whether you're in Illinois anymore. I've been hiking this park for 20 years and love it here. It can be a bit crowded on the weekends, so it's better... More

A must see, If you have the opportunity go. The hiking is fantastic. I now prefer the upper trails from the lodge parking lot traveling east, but when I was younger I did them all. Take a walk through the lodge if you have the time and are into rustic.

We took a day trip to Starved Rock State Park the first Saturday of March and the park was not crowded at all. There is a nice visitor center with a small museum, gift shop, restaurant with burgers, fries, ice cream, etc. There are also picnic tables outside and we sat in the sun and ate our picnic lunch. Dogs... More

Beautiful rock formations. We were hoping to see Eagles, but it was a 60 degree weekend in February, so they must have been enjoying the day as well! We saw the lodge and went on the Starved Rock hike. We hope to go back and hike some other paths soon.
