Park ranger at nature center is very helpful. Trails are well marked and easy to maneuver. Trails lead to the beach to view Lake Michigan.

Needed something to do when we arrived early for our son's Naval Graduation. Beach was recommended and it did not disappoint. I can imagine this is the place to go for people of Chicago to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life....More

Although we didn't walk all the trails, we found a nice, scenic path from the main entrance out to the water which was very cool. We went from forest to swamp to dunes and then right out to the lake. We stayed by the lake...More

We stopped for a quick swim in the middle of our road trip home from Chicago. There is a nice free public beach with ample parking and restrooms available. The water was a bit murky, but it was overall a great place.

The sites are nice and clean. It is nice to have such easy access to the beach from your campsite. Unfortunately, the mosquitos were really out. Don't forget plenty of bug spray.

We came by between rainstorms and loved having the beach to ourselves for a short time just before sunset.

Plenty of parking plus barbecue spots and benches and tables to use for free. Also a camping spot. Beach is safe but no lifeguard

Took the family here for a camping trip. We had an amazing experience. The State Park is beautiful, the campground is well kept and the beach is beautiful. Our kids loved it as much as we did.

Illinois has limited free beach accesses to Lake Michigan. This one will do nicely. OK beach with lake access. Watch the kids and moms venture into the cold -- even for July -- waters. Weekends are crowded with families enjoying the lake and swimming along...More

There is no fee to enter the park and there is no fee for parking and no fee for swimming. In my opinion, the best beach is one-quarter mile walk from the parking lot at the nature area (take the "beach trail"). In the... More
