We happened to be in Cedar Rapids during the flood of 2016 when the whole town was closed! Needless to say we did not get to see any of the town because of the flooded Cedar River. We were fortunate that it did not flood as bad as it did in 2008! Some of the pictures don't show the amount... More

With over 5 miles of length in the City, it gives a lot of different sites and views. With area that allows skiing and boating to rapids, there are views and activities for everyone.

Interesting and enjoyable to view in different seasons. Not so much in the downtown but either up or down where there is more wild life. The flood of 08 destruction of the neighborhoods and the city's development of flood plain is also interesting and provocative.

The Cedar River in Cedar Rapids Iowa is a beautiful place to relax! It is wonderful to see the river within its banks (anyone who witnessed the floods of 2008 will relate). As far as accessibility options, check out the area you wish to visit. Downtown has some areas where wheelchairs, walkers, canes are do-able.

Along south bank of the Cedar River between Edgewood Road and the Marina area to the east where the permanent houseboats are located, in an area where there is also an access road off of Ellis Road. Ellis Road is the main road along and immediately south of the river. We have viewed up to 30 eagles at a time... More

A great place to view bald eagles when ice covers the lakes. Just look in the trees and in the sky. View the destruction that this river delivered when floods covered the area in 2008.

There's something mysterious about the river that cut my home town in half, how it has a "calm" personality then exploded for a devastating flood in 2008. It's a beautiful river that is being both utilized for adjacent trails and parks, and ruined in places by unnecessary development.

Just sit, watch the river flow by and relax. Though autumn/winter isn't the greatest time to sit on a river bank, still liked the quietness, views and overall tranquility.

Cedar Rapids does a great job at centering events and offering public activity along side the river.

We have been boating on the Cedar River for over 3 decades. Wonderful people take part in boating, skiing, as well as just hanging out on the several beaches that are lined on the river. Jet boat, Jet Ski, or Pontoon work best for the river as there are several low spots, especially when the water is down. Some floating... More
