A room is set up with talking mannequin heads depicting four of the lumber barons of Clinton in its hey-day. Their conversation was very interesting. There is a large room with heavy machinery that was used in the sawmills. There are full size replicas of...More

Great little museum on Clinton's north-end riverfront. We enjoyed visiting The Sawmill in Iowa and right across the river visiting The Windmill in Fulton.

This place sounds like it would be a waste of time, YET when you walk through the doors you see elements of the area's history. How it grew from the hard worker pioneers, millionaire loggers, to corn syrup and the unique history the area offers.

Visited the museum with 3 small children (ages 6,4,3). Spent several hours playing in the lumber camp and checking out the exhibits. Interesting and informative, well worth a visit.

An unexpected treasure in Clinton, the lumber capital of the US in the late 1880's. Detailed multimedia explanation of the industry and the people behind it. Friendly staff. Worth a visit. Can do in an hour, more if you read everything.

We learned a lot about the history of Clinton and the wood mills. Things we never learned in Iowa history in school. We enjoyed it.
