This is a small zoo and great for a couple hours of relaxing. I was surprised how clean it was and how healthy the animals all looked. Our family, including 2 teenagers, thought it was very nice.

BPZ does not play in the same league as the Omaha Zoo two hours away, but that doesn't mean it doesn't offer great programs. From Zoo Brew, Night Eyes, Eggstravaganza, and quality children's programming, it is a gem of the local community in Des Moines. The recent birth of the baby Eastern Black Rhino, Tumani, has given Blank Park national... More

I've been to zoos in other cities. And for the size of Des Moines, this a good zoo, animals are cared for and easy access

Fine for the kids but this zoo is pretty small. Don't go out of your way but if you are trying to keep small children busy on a Saturday it is an okay outing.

Bring the kids and have a great day with the animals. Watch for specials evenings for adults and special occasions.

It was a little gloomy when we visited, but that also meant not a lot of people, which was awesome for the grandkids. We saw everything in five hours, which was perfect. They didn't have every venue open but had brought a grill out to make burgers and dogs for lunch. We got to see the sea lions being fed.

We have a membership and always enjoy our visits. In the summer there are always a lot of activities and action going on. We also enjoy visiting on quiet days in the winter. Not all of the animals are always out but the ones that are are more active and we usually end up getting to watch a feeding or... More

I love this zoo, it is fun for people of all ages. We live about 1 1/2 hrs away and try to go every month. Even though it is a smaller zoo they have a good exhibit of many animals. I really love the giraffes. and rhinos. it seems like they are always improving, making better viewing spots and more... More

This is a fun little zoo, especially if you have limited time and/or little children. Worth a visit if you are looking for something to do with your kids in Des Moines.
