Sergeant Floyd's Monument and it's history is a major part of Sioux city's afflication with the Lewis and Clark Expedition. This is an outdoor monument that you can easily drive to.

We only stopped for a short time (it was below freezing), but it is interesting that Lewis & Clark are highlighted in those places in which they camped.

If you get in the area, you have to stop at this memorial. Great history of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. My wife and I spent around an hour there and the views are gorgeous. Lots of information on the expedition and nice tribute to...More

We visited the Sergeant Floyd Monument to see the Vigil put on by Air Force JROTC group. Everything at the monument was very nice and in good condition, however the two lights for the US Flag were not working.

The obelisk is pretty impressive but not so much as the view from the location. Handicap parking is quite close and wheelchair accessible,

You can see many sites from this location. There are maps of the landscape that are surprisingly accurate considering how things change over the years.

I was surprised by how moved I was by this memorial to the only member of the Lewis & Clark expedition to die during their travels (of appendicitis, no less!). Wonderful vista of South Dakota and Nebraska from this Iowa monument. Beautifully maintained as well,...More

We didn't expect a lot from the Sergeant Floyd Monument, and it met our expectations. It memorializes a man who died of appendicitis as part of the Lewis and Clark expedition. The monument has plaques that give some of the history of the expedition, a...More

Husband & I stopped to check this out. Loved the view, like the story, but unfortunately we interrupted a deal of some sort when we pulled up. The story boards are faded and need replaced.
