From the time man first took flight in the early 1900s to the recent shuttle missions into space, South Central Kentucky has played a significant role in the history of aviation. One of the first pilots to fly in combat claimed ties to Bowling Green, as did a World War I flying ace, a pioneer instructor pilot, a Vietnam war hero, Commanders of the famed Air Force Thunderbirds and Navy Blue Angels, the Commander/Pilot of "Marine One", the presidential helicopter unit and the Mission Commander for the space shuttle Atlantis. These aviators - and their ties to South Central Kentucky - deserve to be recognized and celebrated so that future generations might be made aware of and motivated by their extraordinary achievements. This is the mission of Aviation Heritage Park.

If you're in the area this is a must see. Although a small exhibit these are not the planes you see everyday let alone get close enough to touch. The people who flew them are legend and the planes unique.

One of the hidden gems of Bowling Green KY. Korean war to almost current day, each aircraft was a major piece of American Aviation history. Tremendous effort by the Heritage Park members to keep them looking as if each could fly and fight again. Looking forward to the UH1 Huey future dedication as well.

This was a recommended stop associated with a Corvette event. It's a beautiful park well maintained and easy to find. The exhibits are inspiring and there is history associated with each airplane. It's a great tribute to Kentucky heroes. We were a little disappointed that one exhibit was closed for maintenance but understandable. The smaller children touring while we visited... More

While visiting Bowling Green and attending Mass at Holy Spirit Church we stopped here. Not knowing what to expect we were pleased to learn about some of the Kentucky born military men that served our country and the airplanes the flew in the various divisions of our military. Well cared for park with very good historical information.

A little park with several planes that were used in different wars by men from the area in the armed forces. One plane was used in the training of several astronauts.

This is a nice park where you can observe closely the planes. They have 4 in display and they were amazing. Great photo opportunity too. We visited and stayed there for 45 mins, great stop to read the pilots/airplanes history and enjoy them.

This park has a few airplanes and gradually the collection has been growing. You can tune your radio for info on the planes or just read the signs nearby. Kids like to look at and touch the planes and you could get a couple good photos here. If you have kids, make sure to drive to the adjoining Basil Griffin... More

A great addition to an already fantastic recreational park (Basil Griffin Park) Everyone enjoys being up close to historic fighter planes. One was the type flown by our local Gen. Dan Cherry. Very well laid out and maintained. Easy to find just off the interstate.

Beautiful park with 4 planes but the star of the park is the Phantom F4 flown by Gen. Cherry. The other 3 planes were from the Blue Angels, Nasa and a T33. The Nasa was a T38. Enjoyed them all

This is an open air park with just four aircraft: General Dynamics F-111F bomber, Grumman F9F-5 Panther 50's navy fighter, McDonnell-Douglas F-4D Phantom 11 60/70's fighter, & Northrop T-38 Talon air force trainer. The park is free with a sizeable parking lot. A total visit won't last 20 minutes with photography. The park is located on the southern side of... More
