The Waverly Hills Sanatorium is on the U.S. National Register of Historical Places. The massive five story hospital was built in 1926 and sits atop Waverly Hill today. It housed 400 patients and was one of the largest facilities of its kind. Waverly served the community through decades of the worse TB outbreak in the country. After closing in 1961, due to the introduction of life saving antibiotics, the hospital reopened in 1962 as "Woodhaven Geriatric Center" which operated the facility until 1982 when it was closed by the state. Ravaged by years of neglect, the present owners have breathed new life into the building by conducting tours though the facility in effort to restore it to a useful asset for the community once again. Waverly has earned her place as one of the most haunted places in the country and has been host to many films and TV shows. During tour season (March – August) Waverly offers several options of visiting. *2hr. Introductory Paranormal Tour which includes a 20 film then a walk through the building.*2hr. Historical walk through tour held one Sunday each month*Public or Private overnight sessions for ghost hunting enthusiasts. For all tour or overnight reservations or inquiries contact the office open daily 9am to 5pm Monday - Friday.

Good place for a visit. The prices were actually reasonable and they didn't try to take us for every penny possible. I plan to return again this year. It was crazy waiting in line to park, but that's only because of all the idiots out driving on the roads

A visit to Waverly Hills in the daytime can be an interesting outing. Very unique setting and history to the place. Not sure if I could handle one of the nighttime visits.

This place was fascinating. From the history to the architecture. The staff was very nice. The rules were simple. I hope to go back again for another overnight adventure.

I grew up in Louisville and have been obsessed with this place since I was in grade school. I went on multiple tours with friends and continue to travel back to Louisville to bring people to visit the mysterious place. I truly believe the stories people tell about this place. No place like it. You must see!

My Partner and I planned much of our road trip of the southern states of the USA around my hobbie of being a paranormal investigator which I've done for the past 10 years. And being in the field waverly hills sanatorium has always been considered the holy grail of sites. Seeing as we only came to Louisville for Waverly hills... More

Waverly Hills itself, is AWESOME!! Long hallways, stories of death, suicides and the "body chute", where the deceased would be lowered down a long ramp by an electrical winch, to an awaiting hearse. The problem here are the OWNERS!! Extremely rude staff, no flash shots were allowed, (I took pictures which turned out to be BLACK) and we were ushered... More

I grew up in Louisville and spent many hours here as a teenager. This place is beyond any place I've ever been in terms of creepiness. The long since closed facility still echoes with the suffering of years gone by. The long, straight hallways just look like something out of a horror film. Shadows play tricks on your eyes, and... Over the last ten years or so, the old Waverly Hills sanatorium has become not only a landmark of Louisville lore, but also a staple among places considered the spookiest on Earth. Thanks to the Mattingly family, the abandoned facility was saved from destruction and turned into some place of notoriety. They offer tours, overnight paranormal investigations, and a haunted... I have been wanting to take a tour of the Sanatorium for awhile, but in October they only offer the haunted house. I decided to do this to hopefully be able to see the inside of the building a little bit. The haunted house is $20 which is not a bad price, but my boyfriend and I waited in line... More
