Heading down to New Orleans I actually took a detour to explore the historic district of Natchitoches. What I didn’t realize was 99% of the stores, restaurants and attractions are closed on Sunday. What a waste of time. I did find one restaurant to have...More

Something for everyone! Bring your pocketbook though. High prices for everyday items. The walking and looking is nice but get ready to pay for it!

I know it doesn’t quite fit...relaxing shopping day; but, what do you expect from the town that gave us Steel Magnolias? I’m not a huge shopper, so grabbing a coffee and sitting in one of the iron chairs that line the brick sidewalk under a...More

This location in Natchitoches, Louisiana is amazing. It brings a southern flair and the culture here is perfect. The scenery along side the Cain River makes it even better. You have to the world famous Natchitoches Meat Pies in the oldest city of Louisiana.

If you like to store hop and browse, you could spend an entire afternoon visiting all of the neat little shops on Front Street. The old hardware store was of particular interest to me, my wife liked the more artsy and curio type shops.

The city has really done a fabulous job improving the waterfront with great parking and sparkling clean restrooms. Lots and locals along with tourists enjoying this beautiful park and downtown. We picked up some pizzas from Peggy's and smuggled a bottle of wine in our...More

The main downtown in Natchitoches is Front Street. It is historic and quaint. This is the Home of the movie -- Steel Magnolias! Don't venture here looking for chain restaurants and box store mall shops. Instead find one-of-a kind boutiques, coffee shops, candy emporiums and...More

All the ones we visited closed at 5:00. After that Front Street is pretty slow -- only restaurants open. But it's a great time to enjoy a walk along the river. Beautiful.

Restaurants are open. Such as for brunch. I recommend Mama's. Some of the shops open after lunch time.
