Kisatchie is such a huge National Forest, that there's pretty much something for every outdoors lover. We were looking for something to do after having seen the downtown and most of the plantations. The overlook was pretty and worth the drive.

i spend a huge amount of time here hikeing,camping,fishing,photo takeing. this area offers some of the most rugged terrain in the state. u have caves,steep cliffs.and canyons to explore.and pristine old growth bottom lands. u cant go wrong visiting this area. so check it out.

When stayed at the Hilton-Garden in Shreveport and when I pulled Kisatchie National Forest on my gps it gave 3 locations. I picked the one closest to us and it basically ended up down a dirt road that ended in a swamp/levee. No trails, just a large parking lot, levee and swamp. There's so much to explore in this massive national forest, you could go back once a week and never see it all. It's the only national forest in Louisiana, and includes over 600,000 acres. If you're just going through for a few hours, I recommend driving the 17 mile Longleaf Trail Scenic Byway. You see both lowland and highland areas... More

I camped with 6 other people in the primitive area. The area was clean and had one unisex bathroom. They also have a boat launch and bike trails.
