We had a very nice tour of Yellowfin Distillery. It’s a small operation but it made for a more personable tour. Samples were available of their newest Vodka rested with American Oak. Wow! Very smooth. If you’re a vodka fan, I recommend the detour off I-10.

This place is absolutely amazing! It's a small distillery based out of the heart of Sulphur, Louisiana! After working in SW LA for a few months, I decided to return for a special visit that included a trip to the distillery! The owner, Jameson, was very kind to answer any questions we had over the phone. We got to the home of the Yellowfin Vodka and were soon greeted by the only other employee in the company. While his name escapes me, mans gave us an incredible tour of the establishment! My friend Bri and I were thoroughly impressed with the taste of their product! We also really like the way that mans presented every aspect of their business to us. He let us sample some exclusive spirits that aren't even in the shelves yet! We felt like true kings. Next time, I'm getting one of the exclusive éditions that was made in collaboration with McNeese, the local university in Lake Charles.

Anyways, great place. Great people. Great liquor.

In March 2019, three of us visited Yellowfin Distillery in Sulphur, LA. We called ahead, so he was expecting us when we arrived. Yellowfin is a two person operation and has been in business for two years. It is located in an industrial park. The product, vodka, is distilled from Lousianna cane sugar. The tour is very personalized. You can get close to the distilling apparatus (chemistry at work). Questions are welcome. This is a bare bones tour. Don't be looking for a fancy tasting room. There is a tasting. Do note that a little taste goes a long way. We did buy a bottle. I would visit again.

Based on a recommendation from the Lake Charles visitors center, we visited Yellowfin on Thursday, May10, 2018.
We were warmly greeted and given a tour of the facility. After the tour, we sampled a tasting of the Yellowfin vodka.
Why visit- the product is smooth tasting and the startup story. A young man had a dream and he planned and worked hard to bring his dream to fruition.

The owner took time to give us a personal tour and told us the history of his company. Very personable and interesting. The Vodka is excellent, beautifully packaged and reasonably priced. You will be glad you stopped by.

Louisiana grows a good deal of sugar cane. Most Americans are not aware of this, but Louisiana produces more tons of this agricultural commodity than most Caribbean islands. Given the abundance of sugar, it makes sense that local businesses would want to source locally and use sugar cane in their products whenever possible. One business that does exactly this is one you might not expect. It’s Yellowfin Distillery, a vodka producer located in Sulphur, near Lake Charles.

I paid a visit to Yellowfin as part of a distillery and brewery tour I was taking of the Lake Charles area in support of my beer blog, Great Beer Now and I loved what I discovered. Yellowfin is a small operation consisting of a tasting area and a few rooms dedicated to distilling equipment, ingredient storage, etc. When you enter Yellowfin, you will find yourself immediately in the tasting room, facing the bar. Here, you can sample a few small shots of vodka or partake in a mixed drink. The vodka itself is unlike others, with a flavor profile that is exceptionally smooth and a tad sweet thanks, in no small part, to the use of sugar cane in the distilling process.

I took a quick tour of Yellowfin when I visited and I got to meet the owner/founder and several staff. It’s always nice to tour and get educated when you visit a distillery because most of them have a storied past and many interesting tidbits of information to share. I recommend taking a tour if you visit before heading back to the tasting area for a sampling of vodka.

Yellowfin Vodka, at the present, is distributed only in Louisiana. This could and likely will change in the near future as its product grows in popularity. I look forward to one day finding Yellowfin in nearby stores around Houston, Texas. I am confident the locals would really go for this vodka and appreciate its craftsmanship.

Yellowfin is the youngest distillery in the Sulphur/Lake Charles, Louisiana area and its facility is small. But don’t let the size discourage you. They have something amazing going on at Yellowfin, proving once again the old saying that great things come in small packages. Make sure to pay a visit if you’re in the area, as Yellowfin has a taste like no other and is one of the best vodkas I have tried.
