The Forth rail bridge is considered as the symbol of Scotland and a great construction of its time. It was opened in 1890 connecting Edinburgh with Aberdeen across the Forth river. An achievement of engineering to visit and admire walking from South to North Queensferry. Do not miss it visiting Edinburgh.

Having passed over this bridge hundreds of times by car, i was blown away by the experience of walking over it. We parked at the view point car park which has stunning views. The weather was ideal when we crossed, clear skies and sunshine which made for brilliant photos.
You get a fantastic view of the rail bridge, north and south queensferry and lots of little boats! Beautiful.
I also didnt know there is a part of the bridge where you can place a padlock, so cute. Will definitely take one next time i go. Well worth it, priceless.

Walled the bridge on s windy but dry winter's day and continued on coastal path thru enchanting North Queensferry to Dalgety Bay. Very interesting, historical and varied walk. A grand day's outing. Will return with our young grandsons soon.

This iconic steel structure is a UNESCO world heritage site that still functions as a railway line. Trains run across from both sides every few minutes. By today’s standards, from a purely engineering point of view, the structure is surely over designed…but has surely withstood the test of time. Definitely worth seeing together with the other two more recent suspended bridges.

We went to view the Forth Bridge at South Queensferry. I came off the Queensferry Bridge and headed to South Queensferry. I proceeded along the Hopeton Road and continued west along the High Street. When I got to the High Street a sign indicated it was now One Way from 8th March. I proceed along the High Street then Newhalls Road to the bridge, which was an amazing site to see it so close up.
I intended to return by the same route but the High Street as stated was only one way. However the sign advised traffic to follow the diversion. So I headed west and ended up at the Barnton Roundabout in Edinburgh at 5 p.m. - there were NO DIVERSION signs!
The sign also stated - a new one way system will be introduced in the High Street for eastbound traffic.
The visit to the bridge was great but the journey back to the Queensferry bridge was nightmare due to the lack of diversion systems and 5 p.m. traffic.

We have heard many jokes about painting the Forth Bridge - and now we see why. What an amazing feat of engineering. We got the number 43 bus from Edinburgh to Queensbury, especially to view this from land and sea. We were not disappointed.
Breathtakingly beautiful - particularly when lit up by the amazing sunshine which we were lucky to have. We were not so lucky with our boat trip when the mist descended and we could no longer see the bridge - even when directly underneath it! We could only laugh when the mist rose again as soon as we landed!
To see this bridge next to the two modern ones makes you wonder just how they managed to construct this all those years ago without our modern technology. Amazing and absolutely worth a day out [if only for the whisky ice cream from one of the quaint little Queensberry shops!]

I have always wanted to visit the Fourth Bridge so we drove from Essex to Scotland and stayed at the nearby South Queensferry Premier Inn (see separate) review. The fourth bridge is a world heritage Unesco site and i can see why. The sheer beauty of seeing the bridge after all those years are waiting brought me to tears. Its one of the most amazing sights i have ever seen in my whole life ! And there is such a story behind the making of this 130 year old bridge . I bought a book on the subject too. I walked up and had to feel it and when the tide was low i went down onto the shore. There is a statue in honour of men who died during construction.Whilst we stayed in Queensferry i visited the bridge everyday and i felt to sad when we had to leave for home. I took a photo and had it enlarged and put in a frame and put it on my bedroom wall so i can still look at it everyday. FANTASTIC !

We felt that a trip to Edinburgh would be incomplete without a visit to the iconic bridges over the Firth of Forth. So we chose to travel by train from Edinburgh to North Queensferry by train a journey lasting only about twenty minutes but crossing the famous bridge and thus providing photo opportunities both on the bridge and in the sleepy little village on the other side. Well worth the few pounds.

The Forth birdge is best seen from crossing the Queensferry Crossing bridge.
You would not see the full scale from the train line that crosses it.
There are otherview points, especially from the Forth Bridges Viewpoint.
What was mostamazingto learn zbout thie now, UNESCO heritage listed site is the constant never ending painting and maintenance to keep the bridge safe and in good repair.

This was an amazing structure to see and especially when you get to travel under it on the water! Stopped & tendered here on our cruise ship. It was sad to hear of the tragedy that happened during the building of the bridge. Glad we were able to see this structure.
