Bass Harbor is best seen if you are willing to follow the path to the water line. You are rewarded with a great view.

I love lighthouses, and this one didn't disappoint. It was a short walk from the parking lot. There is an active coast guard's family living in the keeper's house now, so it isn't available for touring. Still, we enjoyed seeing the bell & the lighthouse. It's is an amazing sight and one I recommend if you are near the Southwest... More

Took a ride from Bar Harbor and was surprised how small the lighthouse was. Still loved it. It is hard to photograph, but there are stairs that lead down to the Rocky coast. Took pics from there also. Enjoyed it very much.

Great place to see on MDI! Beautiful views of the ocean and light house. Be ready to walk up and down stairs if you want to look at the lighthouse from the ocean view.

Parking is free and if you take the trail to the left and away from the lighthouse you can view it from sea level. If... More

To get the picture of lighthouse you usually see, you need to be agile! First you will go down a long flight of stairs....then you will need to climb out on some rocks. You can still get a picture from the bottom of the stairs, it just will not be as good. But this is so worth doing....if you can... More

This is such an iconic location for photos, which is great for a photographer like me! We arrived just before sunset, on a cloudy day, but colors were amazing!

One of the nicest lighthouses of Maine, but only at low tide because best pictures are taken from the rocks you have to climb down. A path leads there at the far end of the parking lot. We took a miniature home as a souvenir.
