- bob6 contributionsAnother great clambakeSecond trip to Cabbage Island for our crew. Season just started and we were on a boat of mostly locals. I had forgotten how good the "cruise" portion of the trip was. Food was just as spectacular as I remembered and you won't leave hungry.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 June 2024
- SkeeLovrHallowell, Maine490 contributionsExcellent! The Moore family has this experience choreographed into a perfect science! For $92.50 an adult receives a narrated boat cruise around Boothbay Harbor (We saw harbor porpoises and seals.) and more food than you can possibly eat in one sitting: A traditional New England clambake that includes fish chowder, two lobsters, steamers, potato, onion, egg, corn on the cob and a massive piece of blueberry cake! There is a bar on the boat and on the island. The staff was awesome! The scenery is spectacular! You can choose to eat outside at a picnic table, on the covered porch, or inside. If you visit the mid-coast region, this is a MUST DO!Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 25 July 2024
- Elaine B1 contributionBest Maine Meal and Boat Ride!We had a wonderful boat ride to Cabbage Island. The weather was clear and warm! The lobsters, steamers, and chowder were amazing! The blueberry cake was perfect! It was my third time going to Cabbage Island and hope to repeat it annually. My 4 year old grandson and all of our family enjoyed our day. Thank you to the Moore family and staff for hosting us!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 3 August 2024
- Jaci G5 contributionsFantastic experienceWe loved everything about this experience. The food was outstanding, plenty of it too, service was perfect, very friendly staff and owners went out of their way to make sure we had everything we wanted, and were happy. We enjoyed our lobsters and clams with a beautiful view of the water. The blueberry cake was fantastic - I understand it was the owner's mom's recipe, and it was the best I've ever had. Boat ride tour before we got to the island was fun and informative. If you have the opportunity to go, don't miss it. Worth the trip.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 August 2024
- houstontravelingfoolHouston, Texas3,866 contributionsFABULOUS. Just do it!Thank you to the Moore family for sharing their island - and this wonderful New England clambake experience. It was the perfect way to spend a sunny and clear afternoon. The one-hour narrated ferry ride allowed us to see Boothbay Harbor and hear interesting facts about the area. The food was fabulous - and way too much to eat in one sitting - but we all finished it, not wanting to leave a crumb. Our server was an amazing young woman who gave us instructions on how to open our first-ever lobsters and, being the quick learners we were, we opened them perfectly and loved eating every ounce of lobster. A hard boiled egg was part of everyone's meal and we learned that they put an egg in while the lobsters are cooking and when the egg's done so are the lobsters. So interesting! There are picnic tables spread out on the island and everyone just picks their place and then the servers start bringing the food. EVERYTHING was amazing. I can't say enough about the whole experience. If you're anywhere in the area, I encourage you to just DO IT. It'll be one of the highlights of your trip as it was for us. Happy eating.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 August 2024

This was a great deal and activity. For like $70 you get a scenic boat ride then you receive a feast of 2 lobsters, clams, corn, fish chowder and blueberry cake. The family that runs it is great and accommodating. Highly recommend.

We highly recommend a ferry ride out to Cabbage Island for the clam bake. The owners of this island have exceptional hospitality!! This generally sells out quick so plan ahead but if says sold out put yourself on the wait list. Your more then likely to receive an email to confirm your visit as that’s how we were able to enjoy this experience. They take pride in what they do here and the staff is outstanding!! The food was amazing and you meet some wonderful people excited for the clam bake as well which makes for a wonderful experience. This is a must do if coming to Boothbay. Beautiful grounds to explore as well. We can’t wait to come back and bring our family. Enjoy your trip to Cabbage Island it will be the highlight of your trip!!

Would highly recommend for a fun summer day. Loved the personal attention from making the reservation, to checking in, to the cruise to the island. Would suggest planning early as they fill up months ahead. Board in pier area of Booth Bay (I’d recommend sitting on the right or port side on the way out). It’s a leisurely cruise out to the island, now owned by two brothers. The captain points about beautiful homes, light houses and osprey nests along the way. When you arrive on the island you can choose to sit inside or out. We sat down by where they cook the lobsters Lee by third generation nephew whose been summering there for almost 30 years. Loved all their stories but mostly the true curtesy and kindness of everyone. Food is excellent- fresh steamed lobster, oysters, corn on the cob, baked potato, an onion, and a hard boiled egg - not saying why - you have to ask. Dessert is blue berry cake. Perfect for groups, family fun day or couples. Yard games to play…just a throw back to a perfect Mainer afternoon

If you're in Boothbay this is a must do. They meet up at Pier 6 I catch a ferry ride over to the island. Cabbage island is owned by Two Brothers for the last 30 plus years oh, they personally meet you at the dock. This is was a wonderful experience. The cost is well worth the right over and the two lobsters that you yet not to mention the best corn I have had on this trip

Yes, it's a "clam bake" but just as much a "lobster fest." This is loads of fun. A nearly hour long tour of the harbor by boat on the way to Cabbage Island. 2 + hours on the island including the two-lobster, clam, and more picnic. You won't come back hungry. Be sure to reserve well in advance. We were put on a wait list and got lucky there was a cancellation. They told us they were completely booked for 12 straight days in July.

From the time we checked in at the ticket counter to stepping onto the dock at the end of our trip, we just kept saying how amazing this experience was. Every single person we came in contact with was friendly, helpful, and kind. It was obvious they loved what they did and were committed to helping everyone have an A+ experience. The boat trip out was beautiful, the island was even more beautiful....(there's plenty to keep the kids occupied). The food was delicious! Thank you so much!

A must if you are near Boothbay Harbor! Wayne and Bob Moore personally greeted each visitor as they arrived then visited with each family while on the island. Every family member and staff made us feel welcome. Come hungry! The food was amazing and unlike anything else you can get at the restaurants. Wear your walking shoes because there are plenty of short trails you can take to explore the entire island.

How long was the boat ride and are there bathrooms on the island?

I see you went recently, during Covid. How crowded was the boat and the island?
Written 6 July 2020
Hi Pam, we go to the Cabbage Island Clambake almost every year. Because of Covid, they did not open until July 1st, so we won’t be going till later this summer. They are also extending their season thru September. I suggest you check thei website for the Covid changes. I’m sure they will have limits to people on the boat and Island. This is a fantastic tour and a true lobster bake under seaweed in the ground!

No,small island,no roads or walkways, just paths.maybe lock bike up at booth on dock where you board.

Are there boats coming and going ??? Do I have to spend the entire 4 hours on the island ?
Written 29 July 2019
Part of that time includes the boat ride to and from-great tour from the captain. Plus u have all that food to consume. Chowder, 2 lobsters, clams, corn, potato, egg plus delicious blueberry cake . A great experience on a small island made just for a picnic!
Written 13 August 2019
I’m wondering if it’s small boats or one large to the island and is there other food other then seafood ?
Written 5 June 2019
It’s one boat. Max guest capacity on the island is 175. It is a set menu of seafood chowder, two lobsters (or a half chicken), a bunch of steamed clams, a potato, an ear of corn, a steamed onion, and a hard cooked egg-a traditional clam bake. Beverages that come with are water, iced tea, coffee but there are others available for purchase. Dessert is a slab of blueberry cake.
