We went into the museum but had missed a tour and another wasn't for an hour. We couldn't wait that day so the docent told us to come back the next day at the time of the tour. We did and the museum was closed! Very disappointing. We eventually did get inside to tour the museum and it was very special to us being civil war buffs and "students" of J. Chamberlain history.

Our Docent was amazing, gracious and informative. Despite a long day of taking tours through the house she was cheerful and patient with our equally tired kids. Learned so much about JLC and the people who lived in the house and visited over the years. Thank you so much! Be prepared to buy some books if you’re a Civil War fan—the gift shop is fully stocked with excellent books and reasonable prices. So glad we stopped at this site. Thanks again!

I literally and figuratively do not have the words to express the full extent of my admiration and appreciation for this historical gem. If you are a history/Civil War nerd then this is the place for you! The site, facilities, tour and overall experience were absolutely brilliant. My tour guide was top-notch. I could not have asked for a better personal guide to the history of this truly remarkable historical figure who is one of Maine's most impressive native sons. Troy is truly a marvelous historian! I commend him for his work dedication, passion for teaching and love of both Lawrence Chamberlain in particular and the Civil War in general. We "nerded out" together for almost three hours!

A nice tour with some very nice artifacts from his military service and life after. One negative, our tour took 90 minutes, that was about 45 minutes too long, particularly for the tour of the upstairs bedrooms. Just my opinion, maybe others prefer a longer tour. It was probably an hour into the tour that we got to the room containing the civil war collection.

I imagine that visiting this museum on your own would be just ok, but taking the tour is an awesome experience. The docent was knowledgeable and he gave a very interesting tour indeed. Can’t say enough good things about it. I thought I knew a bit about Chamberlain but I leaned a lot. Take the tour!

Knowledgeable and friendly staff - wonderful house and artifacts. My husband and I are both history nerds and there were several stories we hadn’t heard before. Well worth the trip!

Check ahead for tour start times! We just missed one and spent 40 minutes walking the Bowdoin campus to kill time before the next one started.

Nice stop for anyone interested in the history of Chaimberlain. Very good tour guide that gave us a great amount of information on the house as well as the college. Tour takes about 45 minutes, but there are some staircases you have to navigate, so it is not a good tour for those who cannot go up-and-down stairs.

Today my husband and I had a tour of the Joshua Chamberlain House. Janice, our tour guide was incredibly informative and answered all of our questions very well.
We found the tour fascinating and learned so much about this Maine man and all that he represented.

Roxanne guided us through the house and it’s contents. She did a fine job. She was knowledgeable and engaging. I highly recommend this short stop in Brunswick Maine. As a civil war nut I truly enjoyed it.
