If you are a history buff like my husband this home should not be missed. There is a small admission but you are with a guide who explains each room, contents and shares history about pieces. Our guide was wonderful and since we were the only ones on the tour it allowed her to spend more time telling us about... More

Destination on our trip was Bar Harbor, but we spent a night in Brunswick just to visit the museum, Bowdoin College, and Chamberlin,s burial sight.

Stopped in for a brief visit on our way from Bar Harbor to Portland. Tour lasts an hour, but we talked the guide(Steve) into giving us an abridged version (30 minutes). Well worth the $8.50 admission price. I consider myself a student of Chamberlain's life and Steve told me several things I did not know. Only wish they allowed pictures... More

As President of Bowdoin College Chamberlain needed space for entertaining, so he enlarged his modest house by lifting it eleven feet and constructing an Italianate Style first story. This resulted in a peculiar mixture of styles, with even the front door of the early house maintained in place, with a little balcony. An unforeseen consequence was the excess span created... More

Visited the museum this past Saturday - and I am pleased to say their tour was the best ever! There were many tourists and some of the groups overlapped. Once thay figured out how to manage the flow we were able to hear the guide tell the history of Joshua Chamberlain's life, love, and military service.

Enjoyed touring the home of Joshua Chamberlain and learning more about his life and career. The tour guide was knowledgeable and clearly devoted to the subject. Loved seeing how carefully they worked to restore the upholstery and wallpaper to their original designs after the water damage. Chamberlain's study was quite magnificent, and the tour guide's story about the two Medals... More

My husband and I made it for the last tour of the day (3 pm). Guide was knowledgeable, entertaining and provided interesting architectural history of the house, too. We enjoyed looking at all the Civil War and family artifacts and pictures. A wonderful museum!

This was Joshua Chamberlains' house, turned around to have a better address. The hero of Little Roundtop, the man who accepted the Rebel flag of surrender really lived here when he was President of Bowdoin College. Our guide clearly cared about Joshua Chamberlain, and had immersed himself in Chamberlain's life, clearly knowing lots more than he told us, unless we... More

My husband and I are into Civil War information, so we had to take in this house and museum. They take you through his home, there is a lot of his items displayed and since he was a large factor in Bowdoin College, the city of Brunswick and the State of Maine, there is a long history to tell. Our... More

I have lived in the area all my life and I finally decided to visit the Chamberlain Museum. I love going through historic homes. It was interesting to hear that after Joshua's death many of the household furnishings were sold, auctioned off, or given away. Many items were donated back to the museum, some were bought by the trust. I... More
