Nervous Nellie's is a cottage industry (jams and chutneys made with mostly Maine fruit) in a cottage. It's a sculpture studio and acres of whimsical sculptures and installations of American icons like the general store, the juke joint, a western town complete with saloon, sheriff, jail, Chinese laundry, fortune teller, all made in Peter Beerits's quirky style, using re-purposed "junk" from the island dump and countless old barns. Try free jam samples in the shop or have a homemade scone with jam in the tea room. Something for everyone here!

We were vacationing with extended family on Deer Isle this summer and the first place they wanted to take us was Nervous Nellie's. I was dubious because local kitsch is almost always disappointing, but this place was a real hoot. Kids can enjoy it at the level of a fun place to run around, adults can appreciate the Americana style... More

The jams are good but the real find is the art in the woods. Take a short walk in the woods to see an artful use of reclaimed junk which is now someone else's treasure.

It is a long very rural drive to Nervous Nellies. We went on a rainy day and it was fun. The sculpture is whimsical. Make sure to read the history of some of the pieces. The jam and jelly is good. There is an outhouse in the parking lot to take care of personal needs. Friendly people.

Let me start off by saying that this place is way in the middle of nowhere. It is quite a drive through lots of nothing to get here. However, it was a very interesting place. The sculptures are very cool and all over the place. We walked all the way through the entire Forest as well as the sculpture buildings.... More

Great place to buy local jams. Big variety of jams and chutneys. Samples of all. Delicious! Off the main road but a fun stop. Lots to look at while wallibg around the grounds. Outside art, funky buildings, i.e. a reenacted old general store. We had scones and iced coffee too.

We had jam from nervous nellies before as a gift. But visiting there was beyond our expectations. The jams is just a small part of the experience there. You think you are arriving in a scrap metal yard then you see them as sculptures. Words cannot describe. Captivating. Fun. And memorable occasion for all.

You can stretch your legs here and stroll thru the woods checking out the whimsical and clever art which is made by using recycled metal, wood, plastic and whatever else is usable. Then check out the delicious homemade jams, jellies and conserves which are available for purchase.

Interesting collection of many items from recycled items made into art forms . Interesting buildings of local culture. History buffs will also find it interesting.

Brilliant jam factory and art installations in the middle of nowhere on Deer Isle, Maine. Artist Peter Beerits has made it his life's work to fill the forest with his artworks, made from scrap and rescued pieces of furniture/buildings. It's fascinating and unusual. As for the jam, it's lovely!
