We took a self-guided tour of this mansion that was built in 1824 to 1828. The grandson that set the house up as a museum at his death died in 1928. All of the original Furnishings, dishes, carpets, bedding are intact. There were items given by George Washington to this family on display. Beautiful house and grounds. More cloud pictures... More

Woodlawn is a beautiful historic home with lovely gardens - it's not something I'd recommend for kids however for older children and adults, who are interested in the history of an area, it's worth a visit!

I enjoy old house mansion museum tours. This one is very nice. Not for children. Good audio self guided tour with extra details available. A big Antiques fair is scheduled for next week. I'm sorry I will miss it.

Besides the wonderful history, Woodlawn is a central piece of the community. From farmers' markets, to fundraisers, to organized runs, Woodlawn not only provides a wonderful visit, it makes the town a better place to live.

The Woodlawn every year has a theme for their Christmas season. This year 2015 it was Trees. There were trees there from local businesses of every shape color and theme. The tours were very good and seeing the different themed Christmas trees was great. The gift shop is good but a bit pricey. But a well worth the trip to... More

This house tells about a great deal of the area's history, and the grounds and walking trails behind it are open all year round. They hold a high tea occasionally and have year-round programs and a nice gift shop. Definitely worth a visit.

My favorite part of Woodlawn has to be the trails, which are free to use. I especially like them in the winter for snowshoeing. I have also had fun sliding down the hill in front of the museum in the winter. The tour costs money, but it is worthwhile as long as you realize it is self-guided with headphones. On... More

Beautiful Christmas trees in a special historic home in Ellsworth, Maine. Last year I invited two friends to go to "High Tea". We loved the tea and sat overlooking the fresh falling snow and included was a tour of the home. Each room is simply marvelous and we really liked that we could buy the tea in their gift shop.... Really intriguing look into a chapter of Maine history. Well thought through self-guided tour. Can be chilly inside in the fall months - plan accordingly.
